JACOB"Mayor good evening. Nadalaw kayo? Arlene, maghanda ka ng makakain para kina Mayor."
"General, huwag na po kumain na po kami Nandito po ako para kausapin kayo."
Mukhang hindi pa niya alam ang balita. Pero in case alam na niya, magaling siyang umarte. Pero pakiramdam ko wala pa siyang alam. Hindi pa niya nababasa.
"Ako> Ano pala ang sa tin?"
"You and Mrs Gonzales po sana."
"Kami? Sandy ano pa tinatayo tayo mo diyan tawagin mo ang Mommy mo. "
"Okay Dad."
"Are you sure Mayor kumain na kayo? Do you drink?"
"Yes sir kumain na po kami. And Sorry but I don't drink."
"Mayor, good boy ka ah."
"Hahahaha Jacob na lang po."
"Sabagay ako din hindi umiinum. Parang may importante kang sasabihin May...Jacob at nadako ka pa ditto sa amin."
"Mayor, good evening."
"Good evening Ma'am"
"Have a sit Mayor."
"Thank you Ma'am. Jacob na lang po."
"So Jacob, what is the reason why are you here?"
"Well Sir, Ma'am..."
I looked at Sandy who was standing behind her parents. She smiled nervously at me. Then she came to sit beside me. I know it took her a lot of courage to do that. Her parents looked at her bewilderedly. I looked at Sandy and smiled.
"General, Ma'am, kami na po ni Sandy."
"What? Kailan pa? Kailan ka nanligaw? Basta niyo na lang sasabihin sa amin na kayo na?"
"Jacob.."
"General, let me explain."
So I told him about me and Sandy being friends. I told him that when Sandy turned 18 I helped her with an assignment from school, which is the truth naman. I told them that we started texting and calling each other after that. We called each other when we needed someone to talk to. I told them that since, there is really no one to talk to about stuff people my age talk about at the office, since everyone is old and could not relate to problems we growing ups have. Yes, I could talk to them about work, but deep within me, I wanted to talk to someone who has the same problems that I have. And then there was Sandy. I was comfortable with since I know her from way back. We saw each other during events we attended and we have fathers who works for the military. Both of us Army brats. I told them that our relationship was pure friendship until recently I was beginning to feel something for her. The weekend spent away from her made me realize that I love her. That it was not just friendship that I was feeling for her. So I told them that I proposed to Sandy earlier tonight and she said yes.
"Pero di ba girlfriend mo si Celestine? Magpinsang buo si tintin at Sandy."
"No Ma'am. Hindi ko po kailanman nagging girlfriend si Ate Celestine. We're friends and yesterday I talked to her kasi she has a problem with her Dad kasi daw ipinipilit niya kaming dalawa eh may gusto daw si Tintin na sundalo...pero natatakot pa siyang magsabi sa Tatay niya, kay Gob."
"Eto talagang si Kuya eh."
Then the general looked at me.
"Sir, when I ran for Mayor I told myself that I will be a good one and I will make sure that I will bring this city in the map. This is my second year almost my third and on my 10th month as Mayor, I brought in the investors, I brought in business but at the same time taking care of the city so it will not be abused by these investors."
I continued...
"Sir, I am a man who keeps his promises. Ever since even when I was just a little boy, I never broke any promise I made, you can ask my parents about that. Sandy is not the first girl I admired. There were crushes when I was a little boy, but I told myself I will not have a girlfriend until I know that the lady will be the girl I willmake a family with. I do not believe that men were born promiscuous or men are born to have as many girls as possible. No I do not believe that. I believe that you only love once and you should give it all. Give it all to her. And I am proud to tell you that Sandy is my first and the only girlfriend I will ever have. And if she decides that she does not love me anymore, I will set her free but if she comes back, I will be there waiting for her."
And the three of them were silent. Lahat sila speechless sa sinabi ko. Eh yun ang alam ko eh. Yun ang nararamdaman ko. And then Sandy hugged me tight and I hugged her back.
"Mayor, I don't know what to say...I am not saying OKAY completely. She has curfew. She has to let her mom know where she's going.... those stuff."
"Sir, I am willing to wait until you think I am good enough for Sandy. But please Sir, do not deprive us to see each other?"
"Mayor....Jacob, I will not do that. Just know your limits."
"Yes Sir."
And we talked about the City. I met Jenna too. It was a easier explaining to her. She was blushing all the time. I left their house after a couple of hours. I told Sandy I'll call her when I get home. I hugged her again before I left.
