"grantttt" lilac groaned, shaking grant.

it was lilac's last day in vancouver and grant had promised to take her on a date—as friends.

friends. she hated that word, it was a zone she was stuck in, probably for eternity. she liked grant even before he knew she existed, but would she ever tell him that? no.

lilac was afraid to tell him how she felt simply because she didn't want to lose their friendship if he denied her. ever since grant admitted he was in love with someone, she knew she could never have what she wanted.

"uuurrrggghhhhh.." he slapped her hands away and sat up, rubbing his face.

realization hit grant as his eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
"oh shit! o-our date! fuck fuck fuck fuck-"

"it's only 9, grant." she snickered at the dork sitting in front of her.

"how the hell are you ready already?" lilac felt his eyes raking her body and she covered her curves that her dress hugged tightly.

he stood up and tugged at her arms and took her hands in his. "don't cover up, you are beautiful, li."

she stared at the hardwood floor. he pulled her into a hug, sighing. "i'm gonna go get ready.." he broke the hug and patted her shoulder. and with that, he disappeared upstairs.

lilac sighed and plopped onto the couch where grant just was. his scent was lightly spread across the width of the couch. she inhaled deeply, and smiled.

grant was going as fast as he could to prepare himself for his date. his foolish self told lilac that it was just as friends, but to him it wouldn't be. she was already sucked into that hole of belief that they were just friends, and he couldn't pull her out.

he got into the shower and lilac walked upstairs, and went into her room.

she looked at herself in the mirror atop the bureau. she looked good, but was it even enough? should she change?

she sighed yet again, thinking to herself.

don't bother lilac, you guys are just friends and he is in love with someone, and that someone isn't you.

who was he in love with? that question had been engraved in her mind. it couldn't be her—oh no, it couldn't. he was very specific that they were just friends and she was happy that way. or so she made it seem that way.

she was happy for his new profound love interest, and she wanted to help him confess to the lucky girl.

then, the idea clicked.

she raced downstairs, and ran full force into grant, who had wet hair and a towel on his body. she dipped, slipping on the hardwood beneath them, and grant caught her and spun her around. she gulped, hard. so hard that grant even noticed, and the tension in the room rose two notches.

he released her from his arms. "what's so important that made you slam into me?" he chuckled, smiling at her. she eyed him up and down and gulped even harder than before, man was he attractive.

"well, phew hold on." she breathed a little, out of breath from the near fall and grant. her breath was taken mostly from grant though. she continued. "so, you know how you love that girl?"

his eyebrows shot up. "yes?"

"well, i came up with a brilliant idea."

his eyebrows shot down, this time, in confusion. "and uh-what's that?" he scratched his face.

"i could help you confess to the girl that you love! oh it be so romantic." she said, dazing off, thinking about it.

"lilac—i don't know if thats a urm..good idea, y'know?"

"no i don't know because this girl," she pointed to herself confidently, "is going to help you confess your love. you two could get married, go on a honeymoon, have ki-"

"annnddd that's enough." grant cut her off, thinking about the idea.

it wasn't a bad one, no, not at all. that's not why he cut her off so abruptly. it was because she was so oblivious and there was nothing humanly possible grant could do.

as a kid, grant always imagined what it would be like to fall in love. he wanted to tell the girl he was in love with in a romantic way. fancy restaurant, suit and tie, the whole shenanigan.

"please," she pleaded. "let me help," she put her hands in a prayer style way and shook them like a poor beggar woman.

"fine. i'm not gonna tell you who it is though."

"alright, fair enough." she pursed her lips.

"why are you downstairs with a towel on your waist?" she tried so hard to keep her eyes above his chest.

"forgot my phone down here."

she nodded, although she was rather unconvinced.

he ran into the living room and grabbed his phone and ran back upstairs.

he got dressed with flash like speed and came back downstairs with skinny jeans and a light grey teeshirt. lilac's breath was taken away, even though it had to have been the hundredth time she saw him like this.

"can we go to our date now?"

he laughed. "yes, yes we can."
