The next morning, after a long debate with Heather as to why I wasn't riding with her to school, J.D pulled into my driveway.
"Who the hell is that?" Heather asked, looking out the big living room window.
"J.D," I replied simply, grabbing my back and heading down the stairs.
"On that thing?" she continued, and I nodded.
"Why not?" I asked, leaving the house and greeting J.D.
"Morning," I chirped, kissing him quickly. "You ready?"
J.D nodded and I got on the bike behind him. Holding on tightly to his waist, I nuzzled my head against his back as he sped off.
When we got to school, the place was in chaos. I laced my fingers between his, and Alex ran up to us.
"Why didn't you tell us?!" she yelled at me, and I looked at her confused.
"What're you talking about?" I asked.
"Why didn't you tell us that Jason is Red?!" she shook me, and I looked over at J.D.
He smiled at me softly, and I immediately knew what he had done.
"No," I shook my head. "J.D you're gonna get in so much trouble for this."
"I know," he chuckled. "I'll be fine, really."
As soon as he said that, Carnegie appeared marching down the hallway towards us.
"Speaking of trouble," Alex mumbled.
"Jason Dean," Carnegie said sternly. "I'd like to talk to you in my office. You're currently facing suspension for abusing the school radio."
"But if you suspend him, he won't graduate this year!" I shouted at Carnegie.
Principal Carnegie ignored me and lead Jason down the hallway. As I stood and watched them begin to disappear, J.D turned around and winked at me. I chuckled softly to myself.
"''Tis indeed a sin to kill a mockingbird!" I yelled down the hallway, and he gave me a small salute.
