Good Times Are Painful

Memories. They weren't something Taehyung and Yoongi were fond of. They weren't bad memories; they were beyond good and that's why they hated them. The only fond memories they had was when they were together and now, there they sat, sitting on an old, crusty bench completely unaware that they used to be best friends.

"You're sleeping out here again? I saw you with two other guys though. Couldn't you sleep at their house?" Taehyung peered at Yoongi's face; A face that looked as though there was only sadness left. But even if his face told that story, his eyes didn't.

His eyes: dark brown and oval, showed that he wasn't ready to give up.

"Them? Ah that was my boss and one of his employees." Yoongi also took in every detail of Taehyung's face. His boxy smile felt so surreal to him. "Your smile is nice."

"Really? Some people think it's weird."

"Hyungie is my smile weird? Today  at school they made fun of me."

"Taehyungie! I love your smile. It's so pretty it's like...like a bunch of stars!"

"Like a bunch of stars?" Taehyung pondered.

"Stars are pretty! Just like you so...yes, stars."

"You're silly hyungie."

"Nope. I like it. It's like a bunch of stars."

"You're the second person who's said that." Taehyung laughed bitterly. "The only other person who said that was my old best friend." It was so obvious that for some reason they were unable to realise who was in front of them. "What were they like?" Yoongi asked, thinking about his old best friend. "He was really kind and cute! He always had this habit of clinging to me whenever we were around his parents."

"I really cherished him you know? He gave me a shoulder to cry on. A home when I wasn't wanted in my own. He also gave me his candy on halloween whenever someone stole mine. He even hugged me a bunch of times and he did that with nobody else! He was just so perfect in my eyes." The way Taehyung's eyes lit up when he was talking about his old best friend made Yoongi wonder 'why does he sound so familiar?'

"He sounds like a good friend." Yoongi smiled slightly. "He was a good friend. Until he left." Yoongi gulped loudly. His friends past sounded so much like his own that he forced himself to believe they were two different people. "He left?"

"He came to me crying, all in a panic. So I asked him what was wrong but I already knew the answer. His uncle had been hurting him again which crushed me. So he told me what his uncle did and there was no way of calming him down. He said we should runaway together which I was happy to do but when night came I fell asleep..." Taehyung paused for a few seconds. "Once I woke up I realised he'd already left without me. I can't forgive him for that."

Tears were now streaming down Yoongi's face. As Taehyung described 'someone else's' past he was reliving all of those memories. "Ah don't cry!" He wiped away Yoongi's tears with his thumb. "Sorry..." Yoongi hung his head low, unable to make eye contact.

"Can I ask something?" His head still hung low almost as if he was scared of asking the question. "What's the question?" Taehyung's regular smile was now back. "Do you ever feel worthless?"

"I don't know. Tell me, why do you feel worthless?" It was strange how Taehyung had this hold on Yoongi. He was able to see right through his questions yet he's only known him for a short time. That's of course what he thought though.

"I mess up a lot. Sure it would be okay if I didn't repeat the same mistakes but I always do. Nobody wants to breathe in the same air as me let alone talk to me. Over the past fifteen years that I've been living this way I've been called scum, an awful person, beyond fixing, a burden on society and more. I've had things thrown at me whenever I've walked around the streets and no one seems to think I'm human. I have no friends and the people who I work with would rather see me dead than alive. It's hard to think you're not worthless when all that is weighing on your shoulders." Yoongi was spilling his heart out, as well as his tears.

"We're friends! And if your boss is so bad just leave them. I could help you find a job. The air tastes a lot sweeter when I'm talking to you so those people can just enjoy their polluted air while I take in my oxygen." Taehyung giggled, wrapping his arms around the shorter boy. "W-why are you hugging me?"
"My best friend used to say to me, 'Whenever your sad just come to me Taehyungie and I'll give you all the hugs in the world.' Right now I think you need a hug too. Don't you agree?" Yoongi silently nodded. When he was younger he would always say that to people who were close to him. That being his one and only best friend.

"Do you want some candy? It's strawberry flavoured." Before declining his offer Taehyung shoved the candy into Yoongi's mouth.

"I should probably go. I was supposed to do research today but I've done nothing. If you want you can stay over at my house for tonight! It's kind of cold out here." He stretched his arms, while Yoongi, once again, was having an inner battle with himself.

'Don't you dare go with him Yoongi. You're not allowed to make friends.' 'Doesn't he seem a lot like him? Just go with him! He's proved more than once that he's a good person.' 'If you go with him how are you so sure that you won't get caught?'

"Um...I think I'll just sleep here tonight." Yoongi sighed in relief.

"Sorry I wasn't actually asking you if you wanted to come. I've seen you sleep out here far too many times so you can stay the night at mine."

"But I'm seriously fine."

"Too late." Taehyung carried the older boy on his back, walking to his house. Yoongi was too weak and too exhausted to even think about resisting. For once, he felt safe.
