I've been running point on this investigation is proving to be stressful. Annie Mae White. What happened to her? She disappeared without a trace? In her past she was an activist of black and gay rights. A young strong willed woman who worked with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others.
In the '84 she met Jerry Carter. Formed a relationship but in the early 90's they ended it. This is where it starts getting strange...
I'm in Macon today. Looking for anything that can help. I've interviewed some people who were in this town the first time... but none were willing to offer up anything.
This town was the definition of confederate. Every other building dawned a confederate flag on the side of it. A lot of family owned shops and a elementary, middle and high school all next to each other. And as expected the town was completely white. Why would Annie move here of all places.
I made my way into the local convenient store. The potent smell of cigarettes and black coffee filled my nostrils as soon as I entered. A couple were rifling through the beer section, arguing about lord knows what. Behind the counter stood a fairly young lady with pink streaks going through her dark hair. I walked up to her.
"Hello. I'm looking for a Harry Coyd?" She shifted her wait from side to side.
"Coyd, that's a first. That man has no family, and the only person who even cared about him took her ass off to college."
"Do you know where he's at?" I just wanted to see him.
"I can help you with that, my granddaughter here can be kind of a prude." An elderly man came out from the back. "Emma, excuse us and keep an eye on those two over there." He pointed to the suspicious couple from earlier. "What can I do you for? I hear your looking for Harry is he in any kind of trouble?"
"No I just need to talk?"
"Is this about Mya? That girl is his pride and joy it's a pity that he never adopted her..." this old man seems to be knowledgeable about this town, maybe he can help me out.
"Actually, can I talk to you first? I'm a detective for the state, if that makes you feel better."
"Sure come on back." He waved me to follow him. We made our way to the back of the store, more spacious than what I would have thought. He sat at his desk and motion me to sit on one of the couches. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and begun to light one. "Did you want one... I keep telling myself to stop but I'm 82 year old man and I made it this far," he gave a raspy laugh. "I never caught your name ."
"Bishop, and yours?"
"Nathaniel, what's your business with Harry?"
"I'm actually looking into the disappearance of Annie White." As soon as I said her name he grew quiet. "Do you know of her?"
"Sorry I don't reckon I do... you need to get going. Coyd is down the street and to the left, he lives in a blue house. Nice meeting ya." He rushed me out the store.
