Mya's POV

I made it out of that restaurant as quickly as possible. I ran a couple of blocks just to make sure no one followed. I called an uber and was back at school within 20 minutes. I could't just go to my room, or anywhere Kelly or Ryan may try and look. 

I ended up at the library. It's a couple of stories high and enough space where I could be alone. Nobody really was in here, expect people who pulled all- nighters, and some even came here to have sex.

I picked up a random kids book and made my way to a secluded area in the back of the library. The Little Engine That Could. I actually adored this book growing up, The train had drive just like me to make it through any obstacles... who am I kidding? I can't even escape my past.

"I never pegged you for someone who enjoyed those books." I looked up, to see Ryan's friend Dan... I think, standing there with one earbud out of his ear. He grinned before he sat down across from me.

"I don't feel like being bothered right now Dan..."

"Dex"

"What's that?" I was confused, whats a Dex.

"My name." He smirked, "and yours?"

"Mya... I am sure Ryan or Kelly have told you already."

"They have... just wanted to hear your pretty self say it."  I had to fight the grin that was coming onto my face. He seems genuine. "Come on show me that smile, I know you want to," he broke me I smiled. I actually needed that.

"You're smooth," He gave me a cocky shrug and leaned back in his seat.

"So...why are you in the library all alone at night? I thought you were out with the Carter clan." Dex leaned his head to the side, he was waiting on my response.

"It didn't go as planned..." he gave me a sympathetic smile.

"Yeah, with them it never goes right..." so I wasn't the only one, who has dealt with them.

"So, why are you in the library this late?" I was too tired to talk about that family right now.

"You wanna guess?" he smiled, I can see that he was the goofball. I placed my finger on my chin, I might as well play along

"Sure, the whore that was supposed to blow you didn't show up?" Dex busted out laughing and I joined in.

"No my darling, I work here actually."

"OOH.. you do now?"

"Yes I dust the books and watch out for any suspicious activity," He grinned.

"So I guess I'm the suspicious activity then." I joked at him.

"You seem to dressed up to want to cause trouble, then again you can't just trust a pretty face."

"You sure do lay on the charm don't you?" I giggled a bit.

"Yes its part of the package." Dex gestured to him self.

"I think if you tone it down a bit, Kelly may just give you a shot." Kelly did talk about Ryan's best friend a lot. 

"So she does talk about me," Dex grinned.

"She does.. but you wouldn't like what she says..." I joked again, "But, she is wrong though you are kinda cool," I said calming from my laughter.

"Thank you." He smiled. 

We spent the next hours talking to each other until his shift ended. Dex left to get his stuff from his locker and came back with a sheet of paper, and handed it to me.

"Whats this?"

"You said you didn't have a job, and there is another open space available to work along side me. Professor Jones said that I could choose anyone, so why not you?" He looked hopeful.

"All I have to do is feel this paper out and give it to you?" Dex nodded his head, "I could use the money... okay I'm in?" He fist pumped in the air.

"Just give me your number and I'll come pick it up when you're done."

"Okay." We exchanged numbers. I hadn't even noticed the time ....2 AM. " I should be getting back-"

"No, I can walk you to your dorm, its late and I don't need my new coworker going missing before she even starts."

"Thank you," He was really sweet. I linked my arms with his and we made our way out.

I am updating later tonight hopefully. 

This chapter was just is needed for future events, I had to squeeze it in somewhere. Will get back to the main story next chap.

what do y'all think of Dex? What are his intentions with Mya? Friend or more?
