Werewolf- Chapter 36

Brianna POV

I have half a second to decide. Half a second to make a decision, I just hope I make the right one.

Damon POV

"Noooo!" Someone yells. My head snaps up as a blood-piercing scream fills the house. My legs carry me to the source of the scream, and when I finally reach it, I wish I wasn't there. The sight before my eyes would haunt me forever. Brianna was lying on the ground, wrestling with a werewolf twice her size. Her hands were wrapped around it's neck, as she tried to prevent it from tearing her throat. Elena was lying  few feet away, watching the whole scene unfold before her. She was completely in shock, with her back pressed against the one of the kitchen cabinets. I move forward just as Stefan and Jeremy enter the room. Using all my strength I throw myself against the wolf. Our bodies crash together and I watch as the wolf flies through the air and rolls away.

It quickly stands up again and shakes it's fur. Turning it's gaze to me, I feel a slight chill when I notice that it's eyes were a bright red color. My mind replays ever single encounter I have ever had with a werewolf, they all had orange-yellow eyes, but never red. What did this mean? The wolf lunges at me and before it has a chance to land a figure crashes into it from it's side. Stefan. His eyes were dark and threatening as he stood a few feet away from the wolf. He was half crouched, ready to pounce at a second's notice. But the wolf does something I had never seen before, instead of attacking Stefan, it turns around and faces me. It growls and pounces on me, catching me off guard.

"Umph" I say as I land on my back, all the air was knocked out of me. I don't have time to throw the wolf off of me because a different shadow also attacks it from the side. Brianna. Her body and the wolf's roll together on the ground, knocking the dining room table to the side. I watch as her hands go up to it's jaws as the wolf tries to attack her neck. I hear bones snap and I watch as the wolf backs away from Brianna. It whimpers and shakes it's head, Brianna get's up to her feet and crouches slightly in front of the wolf. I didn't know if she was getting ready for another attack or if she was inclining her body towards the wolf.

The wolf takes a second to recover before jumping on Brianna again. Both of their bodies fall over the kitchen table, blocking my view. I quickly jump to my feet and launch myself over the table. Out of the corner of my eye I see Stefan join my side. Brianna and the wolf were both crouching, they were a few feet apart, both of their gazes fixed on each other. The wolf stares Brianna down for a few more seconds before running past her, I crouch expecting the wolf to lunge at me or Stefan, but instead the wolf runs past us both. I quickly turn and watch as the wolf jumps through the window and runs out into the night.....

Brianna POV

As soon as the wolf runs by me I get a sense of security, I don't know why but I knew that if the wolf tried to attack again, Stefan and Damon would be there to stop it. But it was already to late, the wolf had gotten what it wanted. Instead of thinking about it I close my eyes and force myself to morph back to normal. If I turned around now, Stefan and Damon would see what I had been trying to hide from them earlier. I think about everything and nothing at the same time, forcing my fangs to recede was not as easy as I thought. The burning in my eyes told me that I was still in vampire mode, so I think about something else. 

I think about how I jumped in front of Elena to cover her as the wolf lunged at her back, I think about the blood rushing in my veins and the burning sensation that came with adrenaline. It wasn't just my adrenaline, it was something else. The fact that I had finally used my vampire abilities frightened me. It was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time, I felt a little faint and when I open my eyes I notice that the room was starting to tilt slightly. I close my eyes again and breath deeply. I put my hands on my side, wincing slightly when I feel pressure on my left hip. The wolf had caused my hip to jab onto the side of the kitchen table when it pounced on me I remind myself. 

"Brianna...?" Stefan's voice pulls me out of my thoughts. Panic rushes through me and when I open my eyes I notice the room wasn't tilting beneath me anymore.

"Are you okay?" Damon asks. I nod in response. Fear and pain flow through my body, spreading faster than the blood that was pumping in my veins. My breathing becomes uneven and shaky and I slowly begin to turn around. I had told Damon I was okay, but I knew better than that....

Damon POV

Stefan and I watch in silence as Brianna turns around. I feel a pressure in my chest when I look at her face. Her brown eyes seemed panic and wild, her entire body seemed to be shaking slightly but I couldn't be sure. She also seemed a bit...nervous? Her gaze meets mine, I watch fear flash through her eyes before she looks away. Was she afraid of me? I try to think back to anything I had done to her recently but my mind comes up empty. Her gaze moves over to Stefan and I watch as the same reaction passes through her eyes before she looks away.

"What's wrong?" Stefan asks slowly and carefully, as if trying to not set off a child. Brianna begins to tremble and her heart begins to race. She was definitely nervous and I could practically feel the fear radiating off of her. She looks at the ground, refusing to meet either one of our gazes. Her lower lip trembles slightly as her hand moves up over her body. Confusion runs through me until I realize what she's doing.

I watch as her trembling hand lifts up the edge of her shirt, exposing something I thought I would never see. Dried blood was caked over Brianna's stomach and sides. My eyes immediately focus of Brianna's left hip, there was fresh blood oozing out of a wound. But this wound was different, this wound was sixteen little holes in the shape of an open O. Ice runs through my veins as my brain connects the pieces. She was bitten.
