Puzzle Pieces - Chapter 51

Elena POV.

"I need to go-" I hear Bonnie say from behind me. I pull away from Jeremy and find her giving me an apologetic smile. "-I need to go find Tyler."

"I'll go with you." Caroline quickly adds. Panic flickers across Bonnie's face before disappearing. She nods quickly.

"I'm going too." Jeremy adds.

"No-" I say immediately. "-I don't want you getting hurt."

"I won't get hurt Elena-" Jeremy replies rolling his eyes. "-and don't worry about Damon, all of you seem to forget that I have this." He brings his hand up to show us his ring. I sigh internally, of course he was right, if he died by any supernatural occurrence then he would come back, but I still wasn't entirely sure I trusted Damon.

"What if he takes your ring off?" I ask. Jeremy rolls his eyes again.

"I'll super glue it to my finger if that'll make you feel better." Stefan coughs to cover up his laugh. Bonnie and Caroline were both grinning.

"You know he could always just cut your finger off." I say evilly. Jeremy's eyes widen.

"Bonnie I think we should go." He says quickly, now it was my turn to cover up my laugh. I cough as Jeremy rushes to get his jacket.

"Be careful." I say to his back as he runs out the door, Bonnie and Caroline were right on his heels.

"I meant it." I say as soon as the door slams shut.

"Meant what?" Stefan asks, his eyebrows knit in confusion.

"That I would kill him if he touched Jeremy." I say quietly. I stare at a spot on the floor and refuse to look up, I didn't want to see the look on Stefan's face when he realized that I actually wasn't making any progress. Stefan's hand grips my chin gently and he pulls my face upwards.

"It's okay to hate someone, to say that you want kill someone who hurt a family member of yours is also completely normal. Even as humans, we feel the need to protect our family, so you shouldn't feel ashamed about wanting to protect yours." My throat closes up. Stefan was right, even as I human, I felt anger and hatred towards others that hurt anyone close to me, the only reason that it was different now was that I was a vampire. Before, if I said I wanted to kill someone I couldn't actually do it, I was human, but now that I was a vampire, killing someone would be so much easier, and so much faster, I could kill someone with a snap of my fingers if I wanted too.

Stefan slowly leans in and places his lips on mine. My mind shuts down as I automatically kiss him back, he was the only one that could do this to me, I would feel like a monster one second, and in the next I would feel completely human again. I run my fingers through his hair, Stefan's arms wrap around my waist as he pulls me closer.

"I know...you...might not...want to do this-" He says in-between kisses. "-but...we...need..to find...Damon." I roll my eyes as I pull away from him. I turn around and begin heading for the door, Stefan grabs my arm and turns me around. His lips crush onto mine and his hands gently caress my face.

"I know you're upset with him-" He says pulling back a little. "-but we don't want anyone else getting hurt because of us." I nod. Stefan grabs my hand and intertwines our fingers.

"Ready?" He asks smiling, his eyes held a hint of mischievousness in them. I smile and nod, together we run out the door.

Tyler POV.

My breath hitches in my throat, my mind scrambles, literally, to find a response to her question but it comes up empty. There was no way I could describe what being a hybrid was like, especially being one that was sired. When I was sired I would bend and break in any direction Klaus wanted me too, I had no control over myself or my life, everything was in Klaus's hands. At the thought of Klaus something deep churns in my stomach, fear, maybe regret, I wasn't entirely sure. What if Brianna was sired to someone? The thought has nervousness building in my chest.

"Are you sired?" I ask without thinking. Brianna looks at me and blinks slowly.

"What?" She asks confused. Her face was filled with confusion.

"Are you sired? I mean, do you know who created you?" I ask trying to explain as best as I could. Brianna's eyes scan the room quickly before looking back at me.

"Katherine turned me." My mind jogs, she had told us this earlier, I had just forgotten.

"But Katherine's a vampire, she's not a hybrid." I say more to myself.

" Vampires can make other vampires." Brianna says and I nod.

"Yes. Vampires can turn other people into vampires but they can't make hybrids." I respond.

"Then who can?" She asks.

"Klaus, only Klaus can make hybrids."

"Where is he?" She asks slowly.

"We don't know."
