Michael's P.O.V

Ember went off on full speed as she dashed right through the entrance.

She slid under the chicken wire with complete concentration, and she climbed the rock wall with all the strength she had.

"Oh my god" Cassie said as she watched in awe like the rest of us. When it came to the laser room she made a small pause then walked in the smoke filled room.

I noticed a few lights began to flicker, and the room seemed chillier. But as quick as it all happened it ended just as quick with Ember running out of the room.

I then realized I didn't hear even one beep, that means she didn't hit even one laser.

Why is that a big deal? Well, after Dean's run the principal decided to tell us after that with every laser we hit more time would be added to our final score.

When Ember came to the slip slide I hoped this is where she would mess up, since all of us kind of did here.

Once again I saw Ember take a small pause, then she gripped onto the pieces and began to climb with pure ease. She wasn't close to slipping even once.

Finally she slid down the slide and punched the buzzer.

No.

Her score was 2 minutes and 58 seconds.

No one said a word, all that was heard was pure silence and the breathing of Ember. She noticed all of our stares and the pure silence, so she turned to where the timer was and her eyes immediately grew wide.

The principal cleared his throat and put the mic against his lips, "and it seems we have a new high score of 2 minutes and 58 seconds" the principal said excitedly into the mic.

The crowd roared with excitement.

The girls immediately ran over to Ember and congratulated her with a huge hug.

"She beat you" Dean said with a chuckle. "I know" I said, but not mad, more impressed.

Ember then walked over to us and Dean congratulated her while I stood with my arms crossed. "Aw don't be so sad Michael" she said to me with a fake pout.

"Maybe I won't be with a hug" I said opening my arms.

"Don't get your hopes up" She said not moving from her stance, I put my arms back down and gave her a small laugh "in all honesty you did great" I complimented her.

Ember went a little stiff at the compliment, "and you were a worthy opponent" she said crossing her arms and walking back to the girls.

"Well congratulations Ember on setting the new challenge high score." The principal said in the mic, "as an award we grant you this gift basket filled with many advantages for the school year." The principal said giving Ember her basket.

"Oh, thanks so much" Ember said taking the basket.

"You all may return to your seats" the principal said.

We all began to walk back up the bleachers to the row where Fernanda was with Josh. "Congrats Ember" Fernanda said to Ember. "Yeah nice job, you totally crushed the course" Josh said.

"Thanks guys" Ember responded.

Staff and teachers walked back in the gym to take apart the course and put it away again, once all of it was gone the principal began to speak again.

"I would also like to use this assembly to say I'm very excited for this year, I can already tell it will be interesting and exciting"

"That is all students, today school has been cut short so you may all leave to gather your things" the principal said dismissing us.
