After  what seemed like an eternity of sleep, Emily woke up to hear tapping on the couple's front door. Her eyes drifted to the clock which read 4:25am and she sighed. There was no way she could go back to sleep now, she'd have to get up in two hours anyway.

Emily took a glance at her fiancé who was still sound asleep and she smiled at the soft whistling of her nose as she breathed. The brunette got out of bed and walked down to the living area to make her way toward the door.

"I figured", she said to herself as she watched the little decoration they hung just outside the door, swung back and forth in the rain, tapping against the window. She decided to leave the object dangling, realizing just how relaxing it actually sounded.

Outside, it was still dark out but she could see little specs of light trying to break out into the sky. Emily turned on the lamp on the small dresser before taking a seat on the couch. Usually, on days like this, she'd stay home from work and call in sick but she needed to make sure her Sharks were in tip top shape for the rest of the season.

The storm had gotten stronger since earlier but Emily silently thanked god that she decided to buy a car.

Not before long, her mind drifted to Randy. She felt as though if he were to be around a little longer, they would've grown closer. But his father apparently had other plans.

All of a sudden, the girl's phone buzzed and she furrowed her eyebrows as Toby's name popped up onto her lock-screen. She quickly picked up the device and read the message.

Toby: Randall's mother and father are in a custody battle and right now, he's not suppose to be in either of their care.

Emily read the message over and over again but the confusion still hit her like a ton of bricks. She heard footsteps coming down the stairs but she knew it was just Alison.

"Babe?" She asked in a tired voice. "What are you doing up so early?"

"I uh, I couldn't fall back asleep", Emily replied standing from the couch. She then handed the blonde her phone as her tired eyes struggled to read the message. They then widened a bit and her eyebrows raised in shock.

"Poor Randy", Alison said with a small pout.

   Emily nodded in sympathy.

Alison's crossed her arms as she asked, "So what happens if neither of them are fit to take care of him?"

Emily shrugged. "They could possibly put him in foster care."

Alison's ears perked up at this and Emily rolled her eyes."I know exactly what you're thinking and I just don't agree that it's a good idea", the brunette said as she sighed and walked back over to the couch.

Alison quickly followed. As soon as Emily plopped onto the couch, the blonde immediately took her position in her lap. "Oh come on. We've already been taking care of him. Couldn't be that hard."

"We've barely taken care of him for a week. I don't think I can handle the rest of our lives", Emily slightly whined.

"But you know I can't carry-", Alison began softly before cutting herself off as she played with the hem of Emily's t-shirt. She wasn't one to guilt trip someone, especially Emily, but she really wanted this. For the both of them.

Emily caught on right away and almost pushed the girl off of her lap but instead decided to hold her tighter. Her tone was till stern as she said, "Don't try that with me Ali. This is different. You're talking about adopting a 6 year old child with no hearing."
