Emily's POV

It's been a few weeks since we've agreed to watch Randy. And everyday Alison and I have taken care of him together. But this morning was absolute hell. Alison had already left for an early shift at one of the animal shelters she volunteers at. I would've been fine with it except she didn't bother telling me which meant that I was left alone with Randy.

It's not that I don't like the kid because what's there to not like? He's quiet and he doesn't pee or puke everywhere which is great. The thing is, I'm not exactly sure I have the right essentials to take care of a 6 year old by myself. But how hard could it be right?

After I completed my morning routine, showering, brushing my teeth and all that jazz, I walked down the stairs to see Randy sitting on the living room couch with a bowl of cereal laughing at something Spongebob did. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion before making my presence known by taking a seat next to him. He slowly drifts his eyes to mine and smiles slightly.

"Good morning", I greet with a smile of my own.

"Morning", He answers before nervously looking down at his bowl. "I was hungry."

I let out a laugh. "That's okay. Did you make a mess in the kitchen?"

He nodded sheepishly but I didn't mind. I allowed him to continue watching sponge bob and finish his cereal before getting up to clean the mess in the kitchen. And a mess it was. There was milk all over the counter and Honey Comb particles spilled on the floor. I sighed before reaching for the broom.

About 15 minutes later, I branched out from cleaning the kitchen to cleaning all over the house. My OCD was kicking in and it was not pretty. I was currently scrubbing the downstairs bathroom when my phone rung and interrupted. I was so annoyed, I didn't bother looking at the caller ID.

  "What?"

"Good morning to you too babe."

"Ali", I breathed out before throwing down the bathroom cleaner. "Sorry I was uh...in the middle of something."

"That's okay. I was just calling to see how you and Randy were doing."

"We're pretty good. I mean besides the fact that we hadn't really spoken a casual word to each other."

"Could you at least try making conversation. He's only 6."

"I-I talk to him. It's just...I don't know what to say. He's so comfortable with you. And you make it look so eas-"

"Hey. Just calm down. There's not much to it. If you open, I'm sure he will too."

"Yeah that's easy for you to say. I wasn't the one who left you alone with him unexpectedly."

"I should've told you I was leaving earlier than expected this morning, I'm sorry."

  "Yeah it's fine."

"I'll check in later and I'll be home at 5. I love you."

   "I love you too."

And with that we both hung up and I let out a puff of air. I looked down at my tank top which was sticking to my tan skin due to sweat. I ran down the stairs to check on Randy but my heart rate immediately picked up when he wasn't in his original position on the couch. He was probably just wandering the house but I couldn't help but get a bad feeling every time someone or something went missing.
