A week passed, and for some reason, the thought of Erin wouldn't quit bugging Nabil.
For the two months that she'd been around, her presence had unknowingly grown on him. He quite frankly missed her almost routine hellos, and fruitless small talk.
In fact, he refused to admit it to himself, but he was beginning to enjoy being around her. But he knew it was pointless dwelling over matters of the past. So he told himself he'd forget about it.
That evening, Nabil decided to visit the convenience store again, needing to stock up on food. As he drove by, he cast a fleeting glance at the bustling night life outside.
And once again, Erin came to mind.
A small sigh escaped his lips as he exited the car. ❝What happened to you, Erin?❞ He mumbled to himself. Though he knew Erin wouldn't answer him, a part of him was hoping she could. Maybe if fate–
❝She's probably just real drunk.❞ A group of boys trudged past him, chortling like pigs.
Normally, Nabil took no notice of these people. He was accustomed to the behaviors of the patrons of that street, and always chose to remain oblivious to the happenings. Abstinence is key, after all.
That evening however, curiosity got the better of him. So he turned the direction the boys had come from. And so it seemed, fate did always have its ways.
Because there on the pavement sat a girl, bruised and looking somewhat broken too. Sobbing loudly and hunched over her knees, it was none other than Erin herself.
