He gasped, hurrying over to her side, ❝Erin!❞ Her body quivered from her sobbing, and as Nabil squatted down before her, she remained unaware of his presence.

❝Erin,❞ he repeated urgently. Slowly and feebly, she looked up. Nabil's eyes widened when he saw her reddened face, stained with tears and cuts.

❝N-Nabil?❞ She stammered. Erin seemed almost in a daze as she spoke, and Nabil knew he had to act fast. He pulled out his phone, ❝I'm calling Leon, and then-❞

But she hastily put her hand on his arm, stopping him abruptly. He stared at the hand for a second, not daring to move, before meeting Erin's eyes. ❝I'm just hopeless aren't I?❞ Her words were laced with melancholy, and her eyes reflected just the same.

It took awhile for Nabil to find his voice, which had disappeared from hearing her unexpected words. ❝What? Erin-❞ he moved to sit on the pavement beside her, ❝you're not.❞

As tears began to well in her eyes again, she gazed at Nabil. The comfort she gained just from looking at his face beckoned her to open up to him.

❝I can't do anything right,❞ she murmured, hugging her knees closer to her chest. She didn't look at him as she spoke; she couldn't bring herself to. ❝I can't keep any job for more then two months,❞ she continued.

❝And I keep coming back here, partying brainlessly every night,❞ Erin didn't bother wiping away the tears that had streamed down her face, ruining her makeup. ❝Nabil, what am I doing with my life?❞

For the briefest of moments, Nabil remained silent. He didn't know what to say.
