Words were one thing. But actions; they speak louder than any word can. And so Nabil kept to his word. He guided her, knowing that any sort of change can only happen gradually.

As for Erin; she trusted him. Like she had never trusted anyone before.

He was driving her to her job interview that morning. They were immersed in comfortable silence, as Erin gazed at the passing streets. A lot was on her mind.

She glanced at Nabil beside her, eyes glued onto the roads, and she suddenly felt the need to speak. ❝I've never seen my biological parents,❞ she uttered.

Nabil cast a fleeting look at Erin, inviting her to continue.

❝They left me on the doorstep of the orphanage right after I was born,❞ she explained. ❝Been living in foster homes since then.❞ Erin sighed, resentment evident in her voice.

When she turned to him, there were tears in her eyes, threatening to fall any time.❝Makes me feel so worthless. The alcohol, cigarettes; I turn to them because they drown out the pain.❞

❝But I can't do it anymore,❞ she muttered, ❝I don't want to waste my life away anymore.❞

The car halted to a stop by a red light, and the Algerian turned to face her. ❝Erin your past doesn't define you.❞

❝It's what you do now that does,❞ he smiled gently. And at that point Erin knew; she had made the right decision.
