A/N: This will be my first ever fan-fic. And yes it's based off the walking dead and no I will not be following the story line of the show. My story will take place after Beth and Daryl get separated from the rest of the group from the prison. And also I know Beth is way way younger than Daryl but I think a relationship between the two would be great. I mean Beth already pretty much has him changing his attitude in the show. But any ways enough with my ranting. Hope you enjoy the story and please I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Heart pounding, lungs feeling as it they were about to burst Beth ran. She ran even though her legs were aching, her ribs screaming in protest of the shortness of breath. All of that didn't matter. What mattered, if she gave in to the protest in her body, was the things chasing behind her. The walkers, once everyday average people, now flesh eating zombies. And there was three of them hot on her heels, snarling and snapping their teeth with a starving urgency.

She could feel herself tiring out, feel her legs cramping, her lungs bursting, but still she ran. The fear of being eaten alive and then rising as one of those things kept her legs moving. Something whistled in front of her causing her head to snap in the noises direction. And when her eyes landed on the figure in front of her she felt as if she could cry with joy. Because standing there crossbow already firing into the walkers skulls, was Daryl Dixon. One of the world last remaining assholes, he was rude, arrogant and an over all jerk. But right now, as the last walker chasing her fell dead at her feet, Beth couldn't have been more happier to see the dumb red neck. Even if he was now scowling at her in anger.

"Ya stupid ya know that? Just plain stupid." Daryl snapped as he slung his crossbow onto his back glaring at the young girl in front of him. She was doubled over clutching her knees as she took deep breaths. "Did ya hear me girl?" He snapped when she didn't respond. Beth glanced up and met his furious gaze.

"Yeah....you said....stupid." She gasped. "Why you....so mad?" Daryl frowned as she slowly straightened and flinched, small fingers grasping at her side.

"You hurt?" He asked, well growled. Beth eyed him as her fingers rubbed her sore side.

"No, just sore."

"Good." He promptly turned on his heel and started walking away. Beth stared after him for a moment before she took a deep breath and followed him deeper into the woods.

"Do you think anyone else made it out?" She asked nearly 30 minutes later after the brooding silence of the man in front of her drove her insane. When he didn't respond she huffed, wrapping her arms around her aching stomach. "We can't be the only survivors. Others had to have made it. We have to find them. Don't you think so?" Still no answer. She gritted her teeth and pushed her legs faster until she was standing in front of him, blocking his way.

"Don't you think the others made it out?" Daryl glared at her, clenching his teeth together.

"Move." He snapped causing Beth to flinch slightly at his tone. She shook her head and stood her ground.

"No. I want to look for the others." She stated with authority she didn't feel would faze him. She was right. He raised an eyebrow and spat at his feet.

"Aint no reason too. They all dead." Her eyes widened and tears threatened to rise before she blinked them away and glared right back at him.

"You don't know that." He scoffed and moved around her, his arm bumping roughly into hers.

"They might as well be, ya ain't ever gonna see 'em again. Just you an me now little girl. Better get used to it." Again Beth was left standing, staring at his retreating back her hands curled tightly into fist her eyes shinning with tears.
