I wash the sleep from my eyes and then press the towel onto my face, drying it. I've just woken up and it's almost midday. Though it's the middle of the week, I have no lectures today to which I am glad. Even if I had them, I wouldn't make an effort on going.
I still feel pretty shitty because of last night. The dinner turned out horriblly and I don't remember a time I felt such humiliation. Okay, maybe I do. But that's not the point. My boyfriend's mother completely humiliated me in front of the rest of her family. I would understand it if I'd done something to her, but I only met her.
I sigh and push the thought to the back of my mind. I am not going to get too worked up about this, because it's only going to make me stressed.
I pour myself coffee and sit behind the table, picking up one of Ezra's fashion magazines and flipping its pages while sipping on the hot drink. I just found an interesting article about some celeb gossip, when I hear a faint knock on my front door.
I have no idea who that could be, but I get up from the chair either way. I look exactly how I feel – tired. But I don't care. Whoever's at the door can just deal with my lazy clothes, a makeup less face and messy hair.
I unlock the door, which Ezra locked when going to his lectures, and swing it open. My mouth drops to the floor when seeing who's standing in the hallway.
"I asked Dean if he can drive me here." The woman who humiliated me last night is standing on my doorstep. She's dressed completely opposite than I am and I am feeling a bit bad now for not putting a bit of effort in my looks. In the end, I nod and move away to let her in. "You're probably really confused as to why I'm here."
"I actually can't wait to hear what else you've got in stored for me." I say sarcastically and sit back down, grabbing the cup of coffee.
The woman sighs. "I feel horrible for my behavior last night." She says.
"Oh, please," I scoff, knowing I'm acting like a selfish bitch, but I've heard enough of her bullshit last night. "It was probably Dean who forced you to come here."
"Actually, it was my idea." I look up into her eyes, searching for any trace of a lie. "I don't know why I acted that way towards you." She takes a few steps closer and sits down on the chair next to me. "Dean always told me if he had a lady in his life and when I saw you in that ... position in his apartment," I look down, slightly embarrassed. "I was surprised and a bit disappointed that my own son didn't tell me about you. So, naturally, I assumed you were just a fling."
I look up into Mrs. Ford's blue eyes. "You thought I was just a one night stand?" I ask slowly, trying to understand what she meant.
"Yes." She says softly. I bite my bottom lip and get up from the chair.
"Do you want coffee?" I ask, trying to wrap my head around the fact she thinks so low of me. I don't let her answer, because I am already pouring coffee into another mug.
"Thank you." She says when I place the mug in front of her on the table.
"But Dean told you I'm his girlfriend," I remember suddenly. "And you still thought I was just a fling?"
"I thought you were after his money." The woman's words ring in my ears and my eyes widen. "He owns a club and I know he's got money. Just a glance at his apartment tells you that." She chuckles.
"You thought so low of me before knowing anything about me." I state, obviously hurt. "Even when I tried for you to get to know me, you pushed me away, insulting me."
