Illi's POV
I lean against my locker, waiting for Venus. A tall girl with hair like mine, maybe a little lighter, walks up and stands in front of me. She gives me a small smile, offering her hand. "I'm Leslie," she says.
I shake her hand. "Illiana," I reply. "Your Santos's sister right?" She chuckles.
"People are still calling him by our last name?" She says with a grin. "Yes, I'm Julius's sister."
"I've heard great things," I say. She looks around us.
"Listen, I'm not good at making friends-"
"It's okay, I'm the same way," I say. We keep talking about whatever until Venus walks up with the boys behind her.
"Hey shorty," Santos, or Julius says. I give him a small smile. That's the only nickname he has for me that I don't have a problem with, mostly cause I can't argue against it. I look like a child next to him because of it.
"Ready to go?" Venus asks. Leslie and Marcus have their eyes locked on each others, totally not paying attention to the fact that we're walking away now.
"Hey! That's my sister," Santos says loudly so it breaks their gazes from each other. Marcus and Leslie walk over to us. Someone taps my shoulder. I turn around and see the same boy that tried talking to me the night at the party.
"Hey," he says. I look behind me. "I'm-"
"James, I know. We met at that party," I say, sounding too rude. He sighs, nodding.
"And your the girl that got pulled away by her boyfriend before she could say anything," he says. My face heats up.
"He-he's not my boyfriend."

Santos's POV
I bite down hard on my lip. She's not even mine and I'm jealous of some boy talking to her. And the fact that she says I'm not her boyfriend, even though I'm not, bugs me. I feel like I want to change that, but her and I have been good friends lately.
"Oh, he made it seem like you two were-never mind. Ignore the whole beginning if this conversation. I'm James, but you already know that. I suck at talking to girls, and I was wondering if I could get your number and we could go out sometime."
My body tenses at his words, but so does hers. "Um, my phones off right now and I can't remember my number. Sorry," she says. I let out a breath of relief.
"That's okay, but do you wanna go out sometime?" She looks behind her awkwardly.
"I'm not into boys," she says to him. I feel like laughing cause I know that isn't the truth. He looks at her in shock. "Sorry." With that she walks back to Venus and Marcus, passing me and my sister up.

Illi's POV
"So your not going out with that James boy?" I ask when I walk in the kitchen and see Illi. "And your suddenly a lesbian?"
"No and no. I'm slightly bent, but for the most part straight. And I just don't see the point of relationships," she says. I sit at the stool next to her.
"And why is that? With the type of books you read, I'd expect differently," I say. She smiles, looking down and shaking her head.
"Everyone leaves in the end, there's no such thing as happily ever after. You just end up getting hurt," she tells me. I search her eyes.
"Are you talking from experience?" She stays quiet at that. I want to know who hurt her enough to cause this.
"I just don't believe in romantic love," she says, trying g to finalize the conversation.
"But have you ever been in love?" I ask her. She shakes her head. "Maybe you just need to be loved in order to believe in it." Her eyes land on mine. I'll love you.
I shake that thought away. Its obvious to me now that I am growing feelings towards her. But I just ignore them. "I don't know. I just think that in the end, there's only pain."
Her eyes show a whole sky full of pain. There's so much about her I want to know. Maybe if I earn her trust, she'll let me in. I take her hand, surprising her.
"But there's always pain killers," I say. She looks down at our hands. Venus and Marcus walk in, making us look away from each other, but our fingers are still laced together. The feelings of her holding my hand, gives me a sense of calmness and I don't want to lose that, for that's rare for me.
"What you two talking about?" Marcus asks, leaning against the counter while Venus sits on it, almost falling in the sink.
"Nothing," we both answer all to fast. Venus looks down at our hands and her eyes widen. Illi's gaze is fixed on me again.
"Okay then, I'm gonna start dinner," he says. Pulling himself away from from the counter. Illi stands, I don't let go of her hand. I'm not sure when the next told I'll be able to hold it.
"Where you going?" Venus asks her. My thumb makes circles in her hand. Illi sit back down.
"No where," she say, looking at me. I can't help but hope this will end turning into something more.AN: Awe!
