I finished cleaning up the kitchen making sure to leave Jace some of the chicken Alfredo I made knowing he'd be mad if I didn't; It's his favorite from our mom. I walked into my room and saw Magnus looking around. He was smiling at an old picture of me and Jace.
"Jace was adopted when we were 9," I said walking in.
"What happened to his family? Or was he in foster care for a long time?" he kept looking at the picture.
"His mom died when he was a baby and his dad died the year we adopted him. Our dads were best friends and my dad promised to always take care of him. He was always family so he was never alone," I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind.
He placed one hand on top of mine, "I never really had a true definition of family. Some of my foster parents were good, some not so good."
I rested my head on his shoulder, "how many did you have?"
He paused for a minute and I turned him around to face me, "you don't have to tell me if you don't want to Magnus."
He shook his head, "it's okay. I just don't think anyone's ever really asked me how many."
"No one?"
"Maia did once, but no one I ever dated did. I always have to tell them how I grew up and they always treat me different after," he looked down and I knew it was my job to make him feel better.
"Hey," I took both his hands in mine and guiding him to my bed as I sat down. "You don't have to tell me anything more than you want too."
He smiled shyly and sat down next to me. "Everyone treats me like a charity case after I tell them. I don't want charity I just want to be loved."
I wrapped my arm around his waist and pulled him closer to me, "I want to be with you and treat you right. You're not a charity case. You may need a little more love than others, but you aren't a charity case."
He placed his hand on the back of my neck and leaned up kissing me deeply. My heart started racing as I squeezed him closer to me. His lips were like magic just sending me into a trance forgetting everything and everyone. He pulled away first and rested his forehead on mine.
"Ten."
"What?" I rubbed his back lightly.
"I've had ten families."
My heart sank. Ten families. My Magnus has been placed in ten separate homes. How much love has he been shown. I don't want to treat him like a charity. I want to love him. I want to give him the world. I want him to meet my family and then take him right in. Magnus is too good of a guy, to hard of a worker to have lived a life like this.
"Magnus, do you still talk to the last ones you lived with?" I kept him close.
"Yes off and on. They weren't bad, but they have 3 other kids and I was only with them for about a year and a half."
"Where do you go in the summers? Holidays?"
"I stay with Maia during the summers. I meet her first year and he parents insisted I stay with her. I assume you know her family owns that country club so I worked with her there over the last couple summers."
"Holidays?"
"I stay here. It's quiet and I like it."
I kissed him softly, "you're not doing that ever again."
He laughed, "why not?"
"You'll have to come home with me and see my family. They'll love you."
"Alexander," I stopped him with a kiss.
"No buts. Magnus you deserve so much better than what's been given to you and I'm gonna make you feel wanted."
His eyes were so pure. I had done it. I put the great Magnus Bane at a loss for words. He ran his hand up my chest and cupped my cheek.
"Why me?"
"Because you make me feel alive Magnus."
He leaned up and kissed me again, but this time with more passion. I don't think I'll ever get use to his lips.
