Torri delivered several other letters that day. It wasn't a particularly busy day for any of the messengers. She delivered about five letters to the Heap wizards. One to a wizard named Tracy James. And another to her friend, Ethan. Torri envied Ethan at times. He got to be an apprentice to a wizard. That didn't mean they couldn't be friends. After she delivered him his mail, he walked with Torri down to the Messenger Bay and rooms.
"Hey, where'd you get that fancy necklace?" Ethan asked.
"The ExtraOrdinary Wizard gave it to me for my birthday." Boasted Torri. She may have been scared of Madame Alice, but at least she could boast about knowing her.
"No way. Madame Alice doesn't just give out things." He retorted. Torri nodded and smiled.
"Wow, so really? What is it?"
"It's a silver and ruby protection charm." Torri said as she took off her bag and robe onto the hook. She tugged at her brown tunic and straightened her pants. Then bending down to tie her boot lace she continued on.
"It's the most expensive thing I've ever owned." Ethan stared at her wide- eyed.
"Duh! It's the rarest kind of protection charm! The chances of having one of those is like the chance of me becoming an ExtraOrdinary apprentice!" Ethan exclaimed rather loudly. Torri glared at Ethan.
"Ahh! Try being a little quieter please? I-" she was cut off by her boss, Boris.
"Torri, get your robes back on. You are going to escort an important visitor." The old man said said in his raspy voice. Torri sighed and grabbed her robe.
"Bye Ethan. See you later." She grumbled as she pulled her robe on. Ethan waved in reply. Torri stormed on to the spiral staircase a d poured the whole way down. She was surprised to see what was at the bottom.
Marcia Overstrand didn't like to wait. But that was exactly what she was doing. She sat down and brushed off her purple, pointy, python shoes. Getting bored, Marcia pulls out her timepiece. She had been waiting for three minutes!
"What on earth is taking so long?!" Marcia yelled as she pulled herself up. She hated waiting.
When Torri stepped off the stairs, she was astounded at the sight before her eyes. There was a woman wearing the strangest shoes she had ever seen. The woman turned her head sharply.
"Finally! Marcia Overstrand, I have an appointment with the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. Take me up to her as fasst as possible. Thank you." Marcia fixed her salt and pepper hair and straightend her dress. Torri just nodded and brought the woman to the staircase.
"Emergency speed." Torri ordered the stairs. She held on to the railing tight and clutched her hat. Then, Torri and the stranger spun around the corner.
