Chapter Two

Calla's P.O.V.

“Bye mom!” I said as I ran out of the door with my bag of extra clothes in hand. She told me to be back before dark but we both know I’ll be out way past dark.

I shifted after making sure that no one was looking and shook out my fur. It’s Saturday and I’m going to go for a run and maybe even hunt a bit since I don’t have any thing else to do. I ran as quickly as possible and the trees seemed to fade away into a blur as I passed by. I was one of the fastest in my pack, which is kind of funny considering that I’m not the skinniest in my human form. Honestly, I don’t think anyone would ever guess that I would be the ‘mystery wolf’. I don’t think anyone even thought I was a freaking wolf! Although, I can’t really blame them. If I looked at myself at my wolf form and then looked at myself in my human form I’d probably overlook any possibility of me being the mystery wolf too. But whatever, I guess you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

I stopped when I came up to a small stream and began lapping at it thirstily. Damn, running like that makes you thirsty! Someone began to lap at the water across from me and I looked up to see two beautiful blue eyes. It was Payton. That’s just great. He shot me a wolfy grin and I rolled my eyes playfully. He’s such a dork! An adorable dork.

‘And so we meet again, mystery wolf!’ He said.

‘Are you following me?’ I asked with a smirk. His cheeks darkened a bit, wait, is he blushing? Can wolves even blush?

‘No. Just, went for a run.’ He replied.

‘Ah…so have you figured out who I am yet?’ I asked. I’m being really brave today! Go Calla!

 ‘No…but I intend to!’

‘Well, good for you. I’m going to get going-‘

‘No!’ he screamed through mind speak as I turned away. I turned back in confusion and he wouldn’t meet my eyes.

‘I uh, I don’t really have anything to do today so maybe we could…I don’t know…hang out? Possibly?’

‘Why on Earth would you want to hang out with me?’

‘Because you seem fun and cool and you’re really nice…’ he mumbled the rest but I could have sworn he said ‘and pretty’.

‘Okay, then why are you being so nice? It’s not like we know each other that much and I’m none of the things you just listed off…so why?’

‘I don’t know…you’re just so different from everyone else. Everyone is always talking about the pack, or school sports, but you don’t seem to involve yourself in any of it. And you never bother anyone or talk…you’re just kind of there. Not to mention that while girls are always bothering me about who I’m dating or who I’m with you don’t really care or even ask about it. It’s nice.’ When he finished I was in shock. Complete and utter shock. So…he has been noticing me? Wow, he actually seems like he wants to be my friend.

‘Wow, I-I don’t know what to say.’ I said with a nervous laugh.

‘Just say you’ll hang out with me for a bit.’ He said with a sheepish grin.

‘Alright, I’ll hang out with you for a bit Payton.’ I said happily.

 Then we took off running.
