Chapter Nine:
I and Payton had left his house after the officers did. We didn’t want them to suspect that we had anything going on, not that we actually did. His parents gave him confused looks but he just lied, saying that we were going to the library to ‘study’. Then again, I didn’t know where we were going so maybe we really were going to study at the library. We turned and went into a small diner and I grinned from ear to ear. I loved this place! I and Emily would come here all of the time. The waitresses practically knew us by name! We headed for a booth near the back and sat down, chatting quietly.
“So what’s your favorite thing to do?” He asked.
“Hmm, well I love to listen to music. I also love to sketch and paint; it helps get my mind off of things. And other than that I love to read.”
“Wow, that’s awesome. What kind of music do you like?”
I blushed.
“Mainly bands like Pierce the Veil, Sleeping with Sirens, Black Veil Brides, and Falling in Reverse. But I also love stuff like Motley Crue, KISS, Metallica and Rob Zombie.” I answered truthfully.
“I freaking love Metallica and Pierce the Veil!” He laughed.
The waitress came up to us and smiled at me.
“Hey, Calla! Haven’t seen you around here in awhile. Where’s Em?” Ruby, the waitress, asked.
“Oh, she’s probably out making trouble as usual.” I laughed nervously.
“Ha-ha, ya that girl’s gonna be the death of this town. You too missy! So what can I get you and your friend?” she winked when she said ‘friend’.
My face was bright crimson.
“I’ll have the usual and he’ll have…?”
“Uh can I just have a burger please?” he asked.
“Sure sweetie. I’ll have that out for ya’ll soon.”
She walked off and the awkward silence was back.
“So you seemed like you knew her pretty well.” Payton commented.
“Yeah, I and my friend come here all of the time. No one really makes fun of me here so it’s like a safe place for me.”
Payton looked at me sadly.
“Uh, so tell me about yourself.” I said suddenly.
“What do you want to know?” he asked with a smirk.
“Anything I guess.” I mumbled with a blush.
“Well my name’s Payton obviously, I’m eighteen, I love rock music, I hate the color orange, and I hate it when people talk really fast.”
I smiled.
“Your turn!” he sang.
“Okay, my name’s Calla, I’m seventeen, I also love rock music but also screamo, I hate the color yellow, and I am terrified of June bugs.”
Payton laughed so hard I thought he was going to split a seam.
“Y-you a-are afraid o-of June bugs?” he laughed.
“Yes! They’re evil! Little winged bastards...” I mumbled.
He laughed harder. Tears were streaming down his face at this point and people were staring. I started to laugh as well though, I mean, how was this that funny to him? We finally died down and the waitress brought back our food. We both dug in and continued the conversation, chatting about meaningless things and our pet peeves and such. It was an awesome time, especially since I was there with him. My wolf was finally content after weeks of being restless.
