Chapter Six:

 “Calla, it’s time for school!”

I blinked my eyes open slowly and groaned, pulling the covers up over my head defiantly. I tried to stretch and roll over, but I ended up falling out of the bed to the hard floor.

“Aw fuck!” I shouted, feeling pain run up my ankle.

“CALLA ANNETTE LENORE WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!”

I rolled my eyes and grumbled to myself as I got ready for school. Yeah, yeah, yeah, cussing is bad yada, yada. I slipped on my shoes and trudged downstairs. I was so tired from patrol last night. I mean seriously, we stayed up until freaking three AM! Cut me some slack, ma. I walked outside and met up with Emily, she looked happier than usual. Hmm. What’s up with her? Usually she looks like she wants to murder everyone in the morning but now she’s suddenly Snow White on happy pills? Geez, take it down a notch bro.

We reached the school and I automatically sensed that something was off.

Something bad was either happening or it was about to. I have a weird sense for these things and trust me when I say that I’m usually right. I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up, I felt like I was being…watched. Finally though, when me and Emily walked into the school, I knew what was wrong.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

I looked over and saw another wolf shifter, a female with an unfamiliar scent, flirting with Payton. But even though her flirting with him irked me, what was really bothering me was her presence. She wasn’t from my pack, and she didn’t smell like Zak so I knew that she probably wasn’t from his pack. So who’s did she belong to? Because there’s no fucking way a rogue would have gotten in here without the Alpha figuring out. I used my wolf hearing to listen in on their conversation, as rude as it might be.

“So, are you busy after school?” the girl asked, dragging a finger down his chest flirtatiously.

“Uh, I have a girlfriend.” He said nervously.

“Not for long, stud.” She said with a smirk, sauntering off.

Something about how she said that didn’t sit right with me. The way she said it seemed too…malicious. Normally, I’d just shrug it off as her trying to play it cool but the tone in her voice held something much more sinister. I don’t trust her. Emily nudged me and I looked at her. She had a perplexed look on her face, like she was trying to figure out what was wrong with me.

“Did you…did you see that?” I whispered.

“What? The brunette tramp flirting with Payton? Yeah I saw, but don’t worry. He didn’t seem into her. And besides, she knows he has a girlfriend.” She said, grabbing my arm as she dragged us to first period.

 “That’s exactly what I’m worried about…” I mumbled.

 ***

All day, I’ve had that same feeling of being watched. Not to mention that no one had seen Payton’s girlfriend, Melissa, in awhile now. Everyone was figuring that she was just either taking the day off or she was sick but I didn’t buy it. Something was very wrong here. Emily said I was acting paranoid, but she was too distracted by Zak to notice anything anyways. I sighed. Dang she had fallen hard for that boy, and in such a little amount of time too. And by the way he was looking at her earlier, I know that the feeling in mutual. I looked at the science textbook on my desk and flipped to the next page boredly, my eyes traveling to Payton.

He was sitting with his lab partner, Josh, and they were both talking to each other and joking around. I wish I could joke with him like that. I looked around the room and just observed the people in it, but everyone was so boring. So I looked out of the window instead. Outside I saw a black wolf that was almost…smirking at me? I knew it was her. I fucking knew it was that girl. She looked up and tilted her head, and I suddenly heard her voice.

‘Awe, is the little wolf afraid she’s going to loose her mate?’

She looked towards Payton and I growled low. But apparently, that was the wrong move. Because now, everyone in the class was staring at me. Okay so, I guess it hadn’t been as quiet as I had thought. Emily and Zak gave me a ‘what the fuck’ look, Payton looked extremely confused, and everyone else looked baffled.

“Calla did you just…growl?” My teacher asked.

I shook my head quickly and made up an excuse.

“No, I just had something s-stuck in my throat.” Smooth Calla, real smooth.

She nodded and continued teaching. I looked out of the window to search for the little bitch again, but she was gone. It took me a few minutes before I finally realized what she had said before she disappeared.

 Mate?

So what do you think of the new girl? Up to no good or just Calla's imagination? Let me know down in the comments!
