This is death

It was dark. I heard rushing water around me. I was enclosed in something. Pure darkness surrounded me.

Sharp pains grew more intense by the second in my back. I screamed for help. I could find no way out.

The bones in my back cracked and moved. Skin tore open as something shot out of my back. I was propelled upwards pushing aside the darkness and was greeted by light. Intense and overwhelming.

I floated effortlessly. My eyes adjusted to the light. I was in a forest. Trees surrounded me. The river moved on below me, taking my casket with it. It took it to its death where it would sink. It would fall and meet the bottom.

I heard a steady beat of wings. They were mine. I had wings. I was amazed when slowly I began to descend to the ground at the base of a tree. My wings retracted into my back. The pain subsided as my skin healed over with a v shaped scar.

I sank down against the tree. I accepted my death and now here I was in a beautiful forest. A girl looked at me from the other side of the river from behind a tree.

She giggled and ran the other way. Her blonde hair flowing behind her. I tried to figure out a way to follow her. I couldn't control my wings so I would have to walk.

Barefooted I hoped from rock to rock. The girl would stop to see my progress. She kept me the same distance from her as I ran behind her.

She stopped in the center of a clearing. A beautiful meadow filled with wild flowers and tall grass. A small little pond over to the side. She looked to me expectantly before walking to the water and falling backwards into it.

She disappeared.

This is heaven and I must follow her.
