Lyndsey's POV:

-One week later-

I shot upright, sweat dripping down my face. I was breathing heavy as I looked around to get my bearings. I sighed, realizing that I was in my home, lying next to Emalie. I looked down at the sleeping girl next to me, amazed at how I didn't wake her. As my heart settled down a bit, a sharp sting in my right arm made itself known causing me to wince. I glanced towards the clock, noting that it was two in the morning. Clenching my teeth, I rubbed the old scar on my arm. It was like clockwork. Every year, at this time of the day, my scar would start to hurt. I frowned as I got out of bed. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to sleep anymore so, I threw on a pair of shorts and a shirt.

I looked back to Emalie, noticing that she was still asleep. I held my breath as I walked past her side of the bed to get to the door. She looked so peaceful, I didn't want to wake her. I shut my bedroom door quietly behind me and made my way to the kitchen. When all of a sudden, I bumped into someone. My already tense reflexes got the best of me and without thinking, I grabbed the persons arm and twisted it behind their back as I shoved the front of their body into the refrigerator. "Really?!" I blinked a few times before realizing the person was Valerie! I let her go, frowning as she whipped around to face me. She glared up at me as she rubbed her wrist "What the f-" I covered her mouth with my hand.

"Shh! I don't want to wake Emalie." I whispered as I removed my hand. She rose a brow as I leaned against the counter, trying to calm down. "Why are you even up?" I asked, remembering how late it was. Her mood changed drastically as she let her eyes drop down to the ground.

"I uh... can't sleep." She frowned, crossing her arms over her chest. It was then that I noticed she was only wearing a loose shirt. Even in the dark you could still see the pink color make a glow on her cheeks. "Why are you awake?" She countered. I frowned again, as I walked towards the Keurig.

"Do you want some hot chocolate?" I asked, looking over my shoulder. I grabbed two mugs as I planned to make her one regardless.

"Way to avoid my question." She laughed quietly. I rolled my eyes as I stirred her mug and handed it to her. She took it and walked into the living room as I followed her.

"Well, obviously it's because I can't sleep." I said sarcastically. Valerie sighed, plopping down onto the sofa. I sat down on the recliner blowing softly over my hot chocolate to cool it down. I looked over at Valerie, watching her place a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. I bit my lip as I watched her tuck her bare legs beneath herself.

"As you can see, I wasn't expecting anyone to be awake..." She offered, pulling down the shirt as far as she could. Her eyes caught mine, sending me confused signals. I chewed on the side of my cheek; looking at the newly interesting pattern on the rug.

"No judgement." I smiled, refusing to look at her. The tension in the room was suffocating but, I welcomed it. It distracted me from my past so, I couldn't complain.

"Are we going to ever address the elephant in the room?" I rose my gaze to meet hers. Valerie was staring at what felt like my soul. "I mean..." She dropped her head, her fingers drumming on the mug. "You feel it too, right?"
