Valerie's POV:
I awoke in the middle of the night with intense pain coursing through my body. I had trouble breathing, my chest muscles cramping up. But what was more overwhelming was the feeling of constant nausea. I placed my hands over my face, astonished at the beads of sweat that seemed to be formed there. Furrowing my brows in pain, my hands fell to my cramping stomach. Groaning in pain, the woman next to me was stirred awake.
"What's wrong?" I heard Lyndsey's voice call out next to me. I turned my head with a frown, but loving the tired, yet concerned face she wore. "Are you alright?" Her accent was thicker than normal.
"I'm fine." I croaked out, my voice cracking slightly. I watched as her slender brow raised abruptly. Lyndsey leaned up on her elbow, her hair falling over her shoulder. Closing my eyes, I looked away from her. How can I possibly get sick? I didn't have time for this! My eyes shot open as I felt a gentle hand lay over my forehead. I watched as Lyndsey ripped the blanket from her legs, kneeling before me and placing both hands on my face. It was then that I shivered at her cold touch.
"My God..." She started as she brushed my hair over my ear. "You're burning up!" She shrieked, reaching over and grabbing her phone.
"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice becoming weaker by the second. I went to sit up, but the feeling of dizziness overwhelmed me. "Lyndsey..." I breathed out, but it was the last thing that happened before I passed out.
-----
"Why are you half dressed?!" I heard a female voice. I was too out of it to open my eyes, but just by the tone, I knew it to belong to Michele.
"Can we not worry about what I'm wearing for once?" I heard Lyn's annoyed voice. I pictured her to have her arms crossed over her chest. I wanted to laugh at the thought but couldn't. "Something wrong with Val... she's burning up and she just passed out. I can't wake her. She needs to go to the hospital."
"Are you kidding me? It's the last day of fashion week! Just sprinkle some water on her and give her some fever reducer; she'll be fine." A frantic Michele spoke. Despite how I was feeling, I tried my hardest to stay awake.
"Are you fucking kidding me? She's ill you idiot!" Lyndsey's voice was full of anger. I forced my eyes to open, staring at the room full of people, people I didn't even realize were there before. "I'm taking her to the hospital, right now."
"Lyndsey..." I said as I pushed myself up on my elbows. As I looked around I saw that it was only Michele and Brian, both in their evening clothes still. "It's fine, I'll just take a cold shower. I'm sure I'm fine." I smiled warmly at the older one causing her to shake her head.
"Are you nuts? You just passed out! You need to rest obviously!" She yelled at me now, but her face fell as she looked at me. As right as she was, I just didn't have the time to worry about this. I needed to put aside the horrid cramps in my stomach. Just avoid eating... simple enough.
"I'll be fine. Michele is right; it's the last day..." I countered though she didn't seem very amused. I went to stand but almost lost my balance. I gripped onto the headboard tightly, attempting to shake away the dizziness.
"Fuck this." She said, storming past Michele and Brian. I sighed, running my hand through my hair. When I looked up Michele was going after Lyndsey.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Brian asked, his eyes not moving from his phone. I let out a breath, before offering a warm smile.
"Yeah."
But I wasn't fine. It took everything in me to stand, breathe, let alone do my job. I hadn't seen Lyndsey all afternoon, but I couldn't focus enough to bother calling her. Clenching my eyes, I pinched my temples. 'Fuck...' I thought to myself as I sent another girl off to the runway. I desperately needed this trip to be over. My hand went over my face, wiping the sweat from my brow. Why did I allow this to happen?
