- MiaI have never felt so intimidated in my whole life. Jasper's eyes drill into mine, I feel like I'm about to faint. The young smiling boy I used to know is gone, replaced by a cold hearted cruel alpha. I gulp and take a step back. Out of all the people in the entire world, Jasper was the last person I wanted to bump into right now.
'Where are they?' His voice is low and gruff, I can feel my hand start to shake beside my leg.
'W-who?' I reply. I may be mad at Marcus right now but he definitely doesn't deserve to get caught by Jasper.
'You know who. Don't lie to me!' I can sense the anger in Jasper's words and I shudder.
'I don't...' I'm such a terrible liar and he knows it. I internally curse myself for coming to this party in the first place.
His eyes drift off to someone behind me, I turn and groan in annoyance. Standing behind me is Marcus and Dylan.
The look on Marcus' face is unreadable, maybe a mixture of being pissed off and maybe even a hint of fear.
My eyes move over to Dylan who looks terrified, standing slightly behind Marcus.
Jasper clenched his jaw before speaking, almost like a growl, 'out, now.'
For a second Marcus looks like he's going to attack Jasper before he sighs and walks out of the door, not even glancing at me before he leaves, followed closely by Dylan who's staring at the floor in shame.
Marcus has a thing for leaving me without looking back doesn't he?
Jasper sends a cold glare my way before following his two younger brothers out and almost slamming the door behind them, leaving me with that familiar feeling of being alone.
-
I sit by the lake in the forest under our tree, doing homework. It's late afternoon and the cold is starting to come in for winter. I shiver as a cool breeze blows around the tree.
I hear a twig crack and my gaze shoots up, meeting his. Marcus.
He stands there in some dark jeans and a light blue shirt, unbuttoned at the top, my eyes dart down to the floor so as not to make it obvious I was staring.
He approaches me slowly, 'we have to stop meeting like this.' I can almost smell the sarcasm in his voice,
'Like what?' I say shortly, if I'm honest I'm completely over Marcus' bullshit, with his perfectly ruffled hair, big blue eyes, sun kissed skin, really, really nice lips...
Keep it together, Mia! What is happening to you?
I shake my head and then I realise that I've completely missed what Marcus replied to my previous comment. I stare at him blankly
'What? I didn't listen to a word you just said' I tell him frankly, he smirks and sits down in front of me.
'Why? Too busy admiring my good looks.'
I scoff, 'what good looks? I can't see them.' I tilt my head earning a laugh from Marcus.
'Yeah, okay. I said - we're always running into each other.' He tell me, I think for a second before replying.
'Hardly. You always make excuses to talk to me' I flip my blonde hair behind my shoulder in a not-so-subtle movement.
'I don't hear you complaining.'
My eyes dart back up to his,
God, they're so blue and bloody perfect. Snap out of it, people will start to think you've got a screw loose.
'Well... I am complaining.' I state, folding my arms.
He raises his eyebrows, 'so if I told you to come with me because I want to show you something then you wouldn't?'
I stare at my ex-best friend for what seems like ages before finally replying, 'that would depend on what it is you want to show me.'
He tilts his head to the side a little, 'if I told you it would defeat the purpose of a surprise.' He smirks a little and I roll my eyes.
'Fine. Show me' he beams and stands up, I do the same, brushing the grass from my jeans.
I look up to see his outstretched hand reaching for mine,
'What are you doing?' I snap, jerking my hand back.
'You don't wanna hold my hand?' He pouts jokingly and I scoff.
'Did you really just ask me if you could hold my hand?' I narrow my eyes. He's really testing me today.
'Yeah. I guess I did' Marcus challenges. Finally I sigh and slide my hand into his, trying to ignore the way they fit perfectly together.
Almost like they were made for each other. Shut up Mia you're just being stupid now.
He leads me back through the woods, we duck under branches in complete silence for about 5 minutes before I actually say something,
'Are you taking me on a bloody hike or something?' I say and he lets out a short laugh.
'Errrr not exactly.' He muses earning yet another eye roll from me.
Finally we reach where he is apparently taking me. I look up to see the house of the Lockwood brothers. A place where I spent many days of my childhood. I shiver before glancing over at Marcus who is studying me with his icy blue eyes,
'If you stared at me any longer I'd start to think you're writing an essay about me.' I snapped. Marcus only laughed,
'Yeah I have one due in History, it's about how rats carried the plague into England.' He smirked and I flipped him off,
'Asshole!' I spit, only bemusing Marcus further.
'Cmon, loser, I still have to show you something!' Marcus exclaims and walks up to the wall of his house, I follow reluctantly.
'A wall?' I ask, unimpressed. He rolls his eyes.
'No we have to go inside the house so I can show you.' He tells me and I freeze.
Inside?! As in, inside, inside. Where I could get caught by guards, or even Jasper.
I cringe at the thought of it.
Stop thinking the worst, Mia. It's unhealthy.
Suddenly I realise that Marcus is almost half way up the wall of his huge house, I wonder how he got up there until I see the drainpipe running all the way up to the top.
I take a deep breath and then, I too, start to climb up. The castle-like house that belongs to none other than Marcus and his brothers.
