Different chapter 1

You know how I said in the first chapter that it was mostly written by solid-wisp? This is the original chapter she wrote.

The reason that this isn't the real first chapter, is that I didn't want to just copy paste, so I rewrote that mostly in my own words.

It's a lot better than my chapter though, and I'd like more people to see it, so... Yeah. This is entirely written by solid-wisp.

Moana had woken up from a fitful sleep, her core pulled and tugged by the current.

She could feel the ocean's anguish and shock as she raced out of her chief quarters. Her feet slapped against the familiar, rich dirt that nurtured the growth of her people. Her heart stuttered at the sudden introduction of adrenaline.

And when she reached the border where the beach and the forest met biomes, she halted.

No less than 40 metres away from her, did the source of the ocean's torment lay.

The moon had laid out a glistening path from the horizon to the sand, illuminating the black heap on the shore. She paused for thought – on what this new phenomena could mean for the future for not only her people, but for all those residing in this ocean. She took a breath and sprinted to assist her friend.

As she neared the shore, she slowly started to recognise it as a body. She could see the arms sprawled out and the face buried in the ground. She knelt down beside it, the sea and her taking liberty in investigating.

Moana wiggled her fingers underneath the person's arms and heaved until they were on their back.

What revealed itself was a boy with skin paler that she had ever seen, although she assumed that that was the moonlight playing tricks.

He had alien features, unnatural to her eye. The bone structure was fine with high, articulated cheekbones; a thin, pronounced nose and oddly shaped lips. His body was only ordinary in part; he had muscles like many labourers had but no tattoos. Moana checked his face again. He was surely her age. He must be a disgrace to his family name if he had not been tribally marked yet. The ocean seemed confused on what to do with this anomaly. It, like Moana, was tempted to touch him but feared what would come of such a gesture. She glanced at the ocean beside her, who in response gave a cowardly "you first" gesture.

She pulled a face is annoyance.

"Aren't you supposed to be, like, a force of nature? And you're scared of this one guy?" Moana scoffed and tossed her hair. Honestly, she didn't mind dealing with this guy but her mischievous nature begged her to tease the ocean.

The "force of nature" vigorously shook is snake-like head. The tide selectively came in, slowing lapping at the boy's ankle. As if he were been woken up by Heihei pecking at his eyes, the boy was awake. He jack knifed onto his feet, blowing both Moana and the water at least a metre back.

Moana screamed and the ocean only barely managed to soften her fall. They stayed very still as they watched the boy stand.

Now they could have a good look at him. He was shirtless with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, a physique characteristic to the way gliders of the village. But despite Moana's original assumption of the boy not being of much importance, he stood like a seasoned warrior.

His back was to them, but as soon as he laid eyes on Moana something very strange happened.

The ocean – who had been holding her in its weird way – went suddenly slack, withdrawing all support. Moana fell to the sand, alone.

The boy stood before her. And behind him, in all its betrayal, the ocean towered. Moana had never seen the sea personified in this way. It was always had this curious and innocent way about it, like an excited puppy. But now it had risen in one form, darker and more dangerous – much like the waves in a storm.

They advanced – the warrior and the turned ally – onto her. She scrambled to her feet, ready in defence position. But before she could pack a punch, they both collapsed, and all was silent.
