Giselle's POV

It had to be three in the morning and I was wide awake while Steph was beside me out cold. We had been in Bora Bora for a week now and although I was enjoying myself and time with Steph, I couldn't get that text that my "mother" sent out of my mind. I didn't tell Steph about it and I didn't text her back either. If I did what would I say? Why is she talking to me all of a sudden? Is she dying?

All of these thoughts were running through my head at 1000 miles per hour and I don't know what to do to calm myself down. I tried to read, watch TV, drink chamomile tea and still nothing was working. Usually the tea would knock me out and I would be done for and be good until the morning. We still had a week left here and I needed to make the best of it and not worry about what was going on back home, but I just couldn't help myself.

For the first three days, I constantly called Sonya to check on Riley and eventually she told me to go bother Stephen and not to worry since Riley is in good hands. I had no doubt in my mind about her being in good hands, but I guess I was just paranoid since I've never been away from her that long before. I couldn't help myself and grabbed my phone that was perched on the nightstand next to me. Something kept nagging at me to text her back even though I don't know if this will end up being a good or bad idea.  I took a deep breath before typing the text and sending it.

Me: Not to be rude, but what made you want to text me?

I knew it had to be at least 4 pm over there so she should be awake and I was obviously curious. From our last encounter it was made clear that my presence was not welcomed or needed around them and I did as they said. I stayed away.

Mommy: When I really sat down and thought about it, you had a reason to be upset. Many reasons actually. I guess with everything that I had going on that was the last thing that I wanted to deal with and we really made it seem like it was your fault when it's definitely not. I hope that one day we can really sit down and talk about it. I'll tell you all about your birth mother if you want me to. I'm truly sorry, I am going to promise you that for the rest of my days I am making sure that I am the best possible mother and grandmother that I can be to you and Riley.

Me: I don't know if I'm ready for that

Mommy: There's no rush. Take all the time you need.

Me: Talk to you soon.

Mommy: Okay, love you.

Me: Love you too.

I placed my phone back on the nightstand and tried to drift off to sleep since I know for a fact that I wanted to spend the entire day on the beach tomorrow and Steph was probably going to wake up early and bother me like he usually does. I needed my strength for that.

I woke up to Stephen trying to bite my ear off...literally. Of course my natural instinct is to scream at the top of my lungs and push him off me as fast as I could.

"Steph! What are you doing?! My ear is wet and gross now!" I exclaimed while grabbing his hand and raising it up to my ear to make him wipe it off.

"Well you weren't waking up and I've been poking you for about ten minutes!"

"And? We're on vacation! The whole point is for me to be able to sleep in!"

"You went to sleep early!"

"Actually I didn't go to sleep until after three and it's only SEVEN?!?!" I screeched while looking at the clock on the wall.

"Wardell...." I said in my famous warning tone.

"Say no more. I'll let you sleep." He said while laying back down and sliding me on top of him so that I was lying on his chest. He leaned in to give me a quick kiss on my forehead before saying anything else.
