So this took me a really long time to write. I kept getting distracted by Adam Lambert and Queen music videos the first night and Shadowhunter videos the second. 😂
A few weeks past, yet the winged man continued to haunt Dean's dreams.
"I don't want you to go on this hunt."
"Are you actually still worried?" Sam questioned.
"Yes! I have a bad feeling about this"
"Letting you go alone is absolutely out of the question. Besides, it's just shapeshifters. We'll be fine, you'll see."
"Okay, but you just said yourself, it's just shapeshifters, therefore I can handle this myself" Dean argued.
"No way! You don't know how many there is, so you can't go alone." Dean finally realized that he wasn't going to win this argument, so he gave up and tried to push his fears away.
When the brothers arrived at the shifter den, they wielded their large blades and silently made their way into the den, ready to swing at the slightest movement. A large figure stepped from the shadows to attack, but Dean didn't hesitate to swing his blade and cut through its neck. The head hit the ground with a thud, and the body crumbled to the floor next to it. Two more shifters attacked once the first one was killed.
"Sam!" Dean called, but it was too late. A shifter jumped onto Sam from behind, knocking him to the floor and making him lose his grip on the blade he held. He tried to reach for it, but the shifter got there first. Dean quickly killed the shapeshifter trying to attack him. As soon as he looked back at Sam, the shifter shoved the blade through Sam's body. Dean watched in horror as the tip of the blade came out through the front of his brothers ribcage. Blood poured from Sam's mouth as the shifter ripped the blade from the younger Winchester's body, letting him collapse in front of the shocked Dean. Dean let out a scream as he threw all of his strength into decapitating the last shifter. He knelt in front of his still brother. "Sammy?" he called, hoping to get an answer. "I told you, you son of a bitch, but you didn't listen to me" Dean continued through his tears when Sam didn't answer. Quickly, he wiped his tears away and picked up Sam's body before going back to the motel.
Dean laid Sam's body on his bed when he arrived back at the motel. Dean sat on his own bed beside Sam's.
"I'm supposed to be the big brother. I'm supposed to be the one to protect you. It's always been my job to make sure you were safe, and I messed up, Sammy. I messed up big time. I even had a freaking warning and still blew it. I'm sorry, Sammy, I'm so, so sorry."
Dean quickly wiped his tears again and took out the bag of crossroad demon summoning supplies. He put everything into a small box and walked outside to the nearest crossroad. He quickly buried the box. Soon after, a demon appeared in front of Dean. "Following in Daddy's footsteps, I see" said the demon, referring to when Dean's father traded his soul so Dean could live.
"I need you to bring him back. I'll do whatever it takes" Dean quickly said, not wasting any time.
"Wichesters. Always wanting to get right to the point" the demon scoffed as she stepped closer to Dean.
"Trade my soul for his and give me 3 years. That's all I ask."
"No deal" said the demon.
"Come on. Any demon would want their hands on my soul, and I'm practically handing it to you."
"Don't you think I know that? You did say you'd do anything, right?"
"Right" Dean replied, already regretting his words.
"I'll bring your brother back, but you only have enough time to say goodbye." The demon gave a devious smirk.
Tears sprang to Dean's eyes as he asked, "but you can bring him back?"
The demon nodded, "Of course... deal?" Without a second thought, Dean pulled her in for the sealing kiss.
When he got back to the motel, Sam was alive and waiting for Dean.
"What's this about?" he asked when Dean pulled him in for a bone-crushing hug.
"I'm sorry, Sammy" Dean whispered has he felt the familiar burning sensation in his eyes.
"For what?" Sam asked.
"You got killed on the hunt" Dean started, but Sam cut him off by pulling him from the hug.
"You didn't. Please, Dean, tell me you didn't." Sam begged.
"I did"
"Oh, Dean. How long did you get?" Sam asked.
"Just enough time to say goodbye"
"You gave up your entire life for me?"
"You're my brother, of course I did"
"I love you, Dean"
"Love you too, Sammy"
Sam pulled Dean into a second hug. Both brothers had tears rolling down their cheeks.
"Goodbye, Sam" Dean whispered. As Sam held him, Dean took his last breath before collapsing in his brother's arms.
I'm not sure how I feel about this chapter.
