I walked into the school house with my hoodie on my head. I held onto the strings, pulling them down more as if they could be any tighter. I looked up and down the hall before proceeding to my locker.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and jumped. Behind me I could hear somebody smacking on something. I rolled my eyes and turned to face my cousin, Shonda, who was too busy picking at her acrylic nails and humming a tune to whatever was playing in her head phones.

"Yes, Shonda?" I mumbled looking around.

Now remember folks that I was never known to be scared of nobody. I grew up around three out of five of my blood brothers, I was always able to stand up for myself. But on this particular day? Psssh, it was a whole different story on a whole different level. I could do one on ones but a seven on two? I tried my best.

"Giiiiirrrl, I was looking for you since the school doors opened up. What's ha' name — Sabrina, Salinger, —"

"Sienna?" I asked rolling my eyes.

"Yeaaa her," Shonda smacked her lips. "I was getting her name wrong on purpose." She stated and I waved her off. I didn't want to deal with this conversation. "Anyways, she and her girls were over there talkin' allat shit like we can't fight." Shonda laughed. I shook my head. It was always something with Sienna and them.

"About who? She know she can't whoop me, she's not that dumb."

"Giirrrrrrrlll, that's what I thought too." Shonda laughed again. She twirled her lollipop between her fingers. "They discussing is as we speak, but when I walked by they shut up and just watched me. I gots ta' handle ha' cause I can't have nobody child thinking I fear them."

See, I was always ready for a fight. Trust and believe. But for some odd reason today just didn't feel necessary.

"Nah, if it ain't directed, it ain't respected." I stated before shutting my locker. I looked up and down the hallways again, seeing if Marcus was around. I was trying to avoid him all day today.

"But Khamoi—"

"If she can't shout it, she obviously ain't 'bout it." I looked back at her. I could spot Sienna, her friends, her brother, and his friends walking together in a group. I kissed my teeth and looked at Shonda.

"Don't cause no trouble."

"Don't cause no trouble," she mocked me. "Come on, lets go to class." We began walking past them until Sienna said something to set Shonda off.

Hell nah.

"Dirty hoe, dawg she's the one I saw when I was leaving that apartment complex. The one with the roaches. I swear, she better not touch me." Sienna giggled before looking over at Shonda.
