Sapphire dreamt peacefully of the events of the day before, the pack and the scary yet thrilling chase she had, that was until her alarm woke her up early to get her ready for the events of her first school day, even though this was the last week of school before the break her parents insisted that she attend for her own sake to try and make friends so she wouldn't be lonely over the break.
Once she was fully awake she hopped in the shower to wash off the dirt she had gathered when she was tackled the day before, then got out and dried off before rummaging through boxes of her stuff until she found suitable clothes, a nice shirt and a pair of shorts since it was a hot day. When she was fully dressed she took the time to open her new wardrobe and fill it with her clothes and placing her pairs of shoes at the bottom of it to save space in her room, a second alarm started going off which alerted her she had to go to school shortly. She walked downstairs into the kitchen where she found her parents sat at the table drinking their morning coffee with some empty boxes around them from unpacking.
"Morning, we didn't see you last night after your run until we heard you snoring in bed" her father chuckled to himself as he looked up at her with an amused smile on his face, the smile he always had when he teased or messed around with his daughter.
"One I don't snore and two I was exhausted from my run-in with the local pack that you said didn't exist" she states with an amused smile as she poured herself a coffee while waiting for her fathers' gullible reaction.
"WHAT?" the strong voice yelled out loudly. the same yell that always used to make her flinch in fear but now just seemed like a funny gesture.
"It's okay, they simply asked me not to go too deep into their land again unless i join their pack" she shrugged it off but quickly peppered in a final part that she hoped her parents wouldn't hear. "Which i will"
"You are not joining a pack, we came here to live like normal people" her mother chirped happily and stood up, walking into the living room when she heard a knock on the door, expecting it to be neighbours coming to welcome them but it wasn't.
"Your mother's right, no packs and that's final" he stated but was quickly cut short by her mother running in with a giddy smile on her face which only creeped Sapphire out because her mother had never been known to smile like that.
"Sapphire, there's a very handsome young man here to see you, says he's here to give you a ride to school, he's in the living room" she whispered with ecitement in her voice but she quickly dropped it when she saw her daughters face, she had hoped that the gentleman caller was her mate but Sapphires face confirmed that it wasn't.
They all walked in to see Asher stood straight with a kind smile on his face. "Morning, i hope i'm not intruding but my Alpha has asked that i deliver a message and watch over Sapphire at school given she's knew and humans can be..... cruel, we look after our own" he stated proudly as he looked directly at Sapphire although he was talking to her parents.
"Did he now? Well isn't that kind of your Alpha who doesn't seem to be here or we haven't met yet" her father mumbled suspiciously only to be nudged by his wife to be silent while they watched the scene paly out. "Fine but if she gets hurt i'm coming after you" he stated and pointed at Asher to try and scare him.
After Sapphire got her stuff she followed Asher out to his car and looked at him. "So are you always so gentleman like or do you actually unwind and have some fun?" she asked with a giggle as she looked at him, slowly getting im his car.
"I can unwind and relax but i wouldn't expect me to be laid back all the time, i'm a Beta so i have to put my work and pack before my own fun" he states and slowly started driving them towards the school. "The Alpha has asked me to lay down some ground rules, you cannot mention his parents who are recently deceased because he's currently away at their funeral, he's having them buried at their family home in England" he explained but there was a sadness to his voice, like he wanted to be there to bury people that weren't his parents.
"Okay, i'm sure i can do that, i'm also sorry for the pack, losing people is always hard especially when it's the people that are supposed to lead you and show you the way, it get dark without that guiding light" she mmbled sadly as she remembered her own sadness and fear when her old pack was slaughtered.
"You sound like you're speaking from experience" he raised a brow and quickly glanced at her before returning all his attention to the road ahead of them, the school slowly coming into view ahead.
"I am" was all she mumbled as she laid her head against her window and hoped that all the fear and despair would sink away, that all the memories of the blood and disfiguired corpses would just leave her mind but they never did, they haunted her for a long time to come.
