Chapter 26

I shivered in Josh's arms and he hugged me tightly, "I think we should get going back to your house. It's getting really cold" Josh said softly, gently releasing his grip around me and shuffling over to stand up.

"Yeh, I'm tired as well" I giggled, yawning as I spoke.

He laughed and reached for my hand to help me stand up beside him, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me close again to keep us both warm.

We walked back down the hill and out onto the streets, singing Christmas songs and laughing we walked back to my house. 

When we got home, I unlocked the door quietly and stepped into darkness, wondering why no one was awake.

"They must have all gone to sleep" I whispered, gasping quietly as I saw it was gone midnight.

"I'm really sorry, I wasn't planning on staying for so long!" Josh apologised, reaching into his pocket for his phone and pulling it out to dial a taxi.

I reached over and placed my hand over his phone. He looked up and I shook my head, "you can stay here if you want. It's too late to get a taxi and go back home to London. I don't even know if trains will be running at this time"

"Oh, I'm such an idiot. Are you sure you don't mind?"

"Of course I don't, come on" I smiled, taking his hand and leading him upstairs.

All the rooms were in darkness and I opened my door, switching on the light and blinking as my eyes adjusted. Josh shut the door behind us and stood in the middle of my room. There was a sudden awkwardness between us, standing in my room together, on our own.

"I...Umm... I will get you a sleeping bag" I said quickly, not looking him in the eyes as I walked over to my wardrobe and opened the door. I had a double bed but I didn't think it would be a good idea for us to share it, so instead I took out some blankets and a sleeping bag, placing them on the floor next to my bed and smiling as Josh settled down into them.

I headed into the bathroom and got changed into my pyjamas, brushing my teeth and washing my face quickly. I walked back into my room and turned off the light, crawling onto my bed and snuggling under the covers.

I felt my breath catch as I glanced over to make out Josh on the floor. He looked breathtaking from the small light entering my room from the moon and I tried to shut my eyes to get to sleep.

I already knew this was going to be hard to sleep, knowing he was in the same room, so I decided to turn over and face my wall. I forced my eyes to close and tried to forget about him. But his steady breathing was a constant reminder of his presence.

I sighed quietly in defeat and turned back over, lifting my head up to look at him. "Josh" I said quietly, squinting my eyes to try and see if he was awake.

"Yeh" he replied, his eyes meeting mine in the moonlight.

"Umm... I was wondering if... You... Umm... Do you want to... sleep up here?" I asked, turning red in embarrassment from my stuttering.

He didn't say anything, and I was beginning to feel stupid for asking, but after a couple more seconds he stood up from the ground and walked over to my bed, smiling down at me when I looked up to him.

I moved along to the other end of the bed and watched as he climbed under the covers, pulling them up to his chest and laying with his back on the bed, facing up to the ceiling. I didn't know what to do now, so I copied how he was laying, trying to focus on falling asleep.

"Lily" he whispered suddenly, his voice filling my room.

"Yeh" I replied, turning to face him and meeting his eyes as he rolled over to look at me.

"Can you please lay next to me?" he asked, his voice small.

I swallowed and nodded, shuffling up closer to him tentatively. I laid far enough away so just our arms were touching, not really knowing how to react.

He groaned quietly and closed the small space between us, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me close to him so I could rest my head against his chest. He hugged me tightly and I sighed in contentment, feeling my body finally relax as I lay against him, wrapped in his warm arms.

"That's better" he whispered, gently leaning down and kissing my forehead.

I finally felt comfortable and as I closed my eyes, I drifted off to sleep straight away.

Movement underneath me woke me up suddenly and I opened my eyes to see Josh was awake and was trying to gently move me off of him.

"Sorry" I apologised, shuffling backwards and letting him go.

"It's ok" he laughed quietly, "I need to go to the toilet and I didn't really want to wake you"

I giggled and watched as he left the room, reaching down to my phone to see it was 5 in the morning. I didn't really remember falling asleep.

A minute later he walked back in and joined me back in bed, pulling me close to him again. I nestled close to him and smiled to myself.

"Me and George have to be up soon" he groaned quietly, putting his phone back down on the ground after he looked at the time.

I looked up at him questioningly, raising my eyebrow in confusion.

"We have a meeting or something in London later, so we need to be in the city to get everything ready and sorted" he sighed.

"Oh" I said quietly, I had been secretly hoping to spend another day with Josh. Just as I spoke we heard George's alarm sound from Lucy's room and I saw the bathroom light flick on.

Josh hugged me tighter and then let go, getting out of bed and reaching down to kiss me on my cheek, "sleep beautiful, I will be back soon"

His soft words made my heart flutter and I smiled up at him, "hurry back" I whispered.

"I will" he replied, "or you could come to my flat in London?" He added after, looking at me pleadingly.

"That sounds like a much better idea" I giggled, not wanting to push my luck with my parents.

"I will see you later then" Josh smiled, kissing me goodbye and leaving the room, shutting the door gently behind him and leaving me alone in the dark.

I'm so sorry I didn't update yesterday!! I have been in London again all weekend and didn't have the time to update! I'm really sorry!
