Chapter 30

The bus ride home was silent and we walked quickly back home. I opened the front door and saw my mum stood in the kitchen, "did you have a good shopping trip girls?" She asked, looking up and smiling. She had no idea.

"It was good" I mumbled, heading straight upstairs and into my room.

I shut the door behind me and laid down on my bed, letting my tears fall freely on my pillow. When I breathed in I was overwhelmed by the smell of Josh on the pillow and I was reminded of last night, making a new wave of tears ripple through me.

Lucy's POV

"What's wrong with Lily?" My mum asked as I walked into the kitchen.

"I need to show you something" I said, walking into the living room and hearing her follow behind me. I turned on the TV and looked up to see her with a really confused expression on her face.

I flicked through the channels until I found the entertainment news programme, putting it on and waiting for the headline about Josh.

"Why are we watching this?" My mum asked, sitting down on the sofa in front of the TV.

"Just wait" I said quietly, eyes fixed on the screen.

After a couple more minutes the headline I had been waiting for came on and the picture of Josh and Daisy came onto the screen.

I heard my mum take a sharp intake of breath and looked at her with sad eyes, "is that...Is that Josh?" She asked.

I nodded and looked back at the TV, "Lily saw the picture when we were in a shop getting Josh a Christmas present. I can't believe he would do this to her, I didn't think he was like that at all" I sighed.

"It doesn't seem like something he would do, he always seemed like such a nice boy. Are we sure that's Josh?" She questioned, her voice holding a little bit of hope.

"There's a video as well, it's definitely him" I told her reluctantly, not wanting to believe it myself.

"How's Lily, should I go up and see her?" My mum asked me eventually.

"I don't think that's a good idea, I think she will just want to be left alone right now. She didn't talk to me at all on the way back. When I asked her how she was, she said she was fine and she didn't care what Josh did because they weren't technically together. But I know she is lying, she just doesn't want to show it" I said quickly, knowing my sister well enough to know that right now she just needed to be by herself.

My mum nodded and was about to speak when we heard a sharp tap at the door, followed by another.

"Is that dad?" I asked, knowing he should be at work right now.

"No, he always rings me before he leaves. I will go and answer it" She sighed, standing up from the sofa slowly and walking to the door. I followed her behind and when she answered the door I gasped.

Lily's POV

I sat up when I heard knocks on the front door and strained my ears to listen. I heard footsteps in the hallway and heard the door open, listening intently to what was being said.

"I don't think you should be here right now" I heard my mum say, her voice sharp and demanding.

Oh no. Josh.

"Please, I need to talk to Lily" I heard him say.

"Seriously Josh, go" I heard Lucy instruct, her voice emotionless and cold.

I made a split second decision, I jumped out of bed, grabbing his phone from my desk that he had left in my room, and heading out of my door. I stood at the top of the stairs and saw everyone turn to look at me. Josh was standing outside and my mum and Lucy stood like a barrier in front of him. I walked down the stairs and smiled at my family, putting on my shoes and walking outside, heading up the street. I didn't bother to look behind but I could hear him jogging to keep up behind me.

"Lily, please wait" he said as he caught up to me.

I stopped abruptly and handed him his phone, he took it in bewilderment and tried to look me in the eyes. Instead I turned and carried on walking. I didn't care if I was being stupid, I had to stay in control and this was the only way I felt like I could.

"Lily, please" he repeated as he caught me up, this time he grabbed my arm gently with his hand and tugged me round to face him.

"No, Josh" I replied coldly.

"Just listen" he said quickly, keeping his hold on my arm.

"Let go of me" I said, tugging my arm away from his hand. He quickly let go and looked down at the ground. "What do you want Josh? Are you here to tell me you still love me, that you just kissed her for the publicity. Because if you are then you might as well turn around now and go back home, because I don't want to hear it"

"She kissed me, Lily. I pulled away as soon as she did it" he pleaded.

"Why didn't you stop her before her lips met yours?" I asked bluntly.

"It all happened too quickly, I couldn't process what was happening" he replied, his voice small.

I let out a short laugh, "I'm pretty sure if someone was putting their face that close to mine I would realise what was happening."

With that I turned around and walked quickly away from him, now heading onto a small field at the bottom of the downs.

"Why don't you believe me?" I heard him call behind me, hearing his footsteps running to catch me up.

"I told myself I wouldn't do this again Josh" I said, my voice cracking as I spoke as I stopped and turned to look at him.

"Can't do what again?" He asked, his face looking worried.

I felt the tears pricking at my eyes as I looked at his face, "go through heartbreak again. I promised myself I wouldn't put myself in this position again and here I am" I sobbed, the tears falling freely now as I spoke.

"It wasn't intentional, Lily. I promise you, I can't lose you again" he pleaded, his voice cracking and his eyes filling with tears as he spoke.

"I can't be with someone who kisses other girls and gets the picture plastered all over the media" I said between tears.

"What can I do to make you see that you are the only one for me, Lily? I couldn't stop it" he said with tears running down his face.

"There is nothing you can do whilst everyone thinks you are with Daisy, and you can't even hold my hand in public. I was like some secret girlfriend and I don't want to be that any longer. I can't be that any longer" I replied, turning round and walking back the way we came.

This time, he didn't follow me.
