Shoma pov.
I was woken up by a dog barking and Itsuki yelling.
"Shoma! Shoma! Get up and help me!"
Groaning, I roll out of bed and trudged down the hall. I am convinced Marianne is the devil. I'm sure of it. See, with the whole month available to me after Rostelecom Cup, my plan was to practice, do homework, play video games, eat and sleep. But no. Marianne managed to convince both my mother and my coaches that having me babysit her 6-month-old kid was beneficial. The conversation was something along the lines of this:
----------------------------
"He's at the age of a man already. You [my mother] dress him, cook for him, shop for him. And when it's not you, it's you two [ my coaches] who tend to his every need. That's boy can't fend for himself. I'd be surprised if he can take care of a rock. Do we not remember the time he killed a cactus? What will he do if he is married? Will his spouse take care of him? and if his spouse gets sick, then what?" Marianne spoke as if she was giving a speech to the Japanese Parliament, and her audience (my mother and coaches) seemed to be swayed.
The day after that.
"Shoma Uno, you come down here right now!" My mother yelled from downstairs.
I come rushing down the stairs as fast as I can, to see my mother and Marianne at the dinner table chatting over a cup of tea. "You called mom? Oh, Hello Marianne."
She smiled cheerfully, hiding any clue of her devious plan. "Hello, Shoma."
"Shoma, it has come to my attention that you haven't been responsible for your wellbeing as a 19-year-old should be, and since you can back so helpful after your stay with Marianne, you will spend the month there."
"What?! But I have training!"
"Yes, and Marianne's a doctor and also a member of the Psychology teaching department. Her house if closer to Chukyo anyways." My mother gave me a stern look that meant whatever argument I had would not suffice.
"Mom. don't you get it? She just wants a free babysitter."
"Marianne and Hiroshi are very busy and a babysitter costs money. Besides, he's your first cousin once removed, it'll do you some good to bond with him. If you stay at home, all you do is skate, do homework, and play games. The only time I see you are when you come down to get food. You don't do any chores in the house. That's final. Pack your bags, Marianne will drive you to her house right away."
We hear laughing coming from the stairs. It was Itsuki.
"Have fun brother, see you in a month." He doubles over laughing again.
My mother did not find it amusing, however. "If you think it is so funny, you'll be staying over there too."
"Heh! What mom? I have school and modeling and I need to see my friends (his secret girlfriend)."
"Hush, you'll see them again when you get back. You need to learn some maturity too." She glared firmly at both of us.
She turned to Marianne and her eyes softened. "Next time, won't you bring Katsuro. He's gotten so big, why it was only yesterday when he was still a newborn"
She turned to us, "What are the two of you still standing there for? Get packing!"
She returned to her conversation. "Oh, I cannot thank you enough. I need a break. Seriously, Itsuki goes through at least three outfits a day. Doing his laundry is a nightmare. As for Shoma, his room is so messy that I can't even see the floor. That boy can't even pick out his own clothes."
