Moonbeam's POV
"What happened? What. Happened??" I could tell Ryker was getting angry now. His eyes were dilating and his nostrils were flaring.
"I don't understand. Why are you getting upset?" I reached for him but he backed away. My heart broke and an involuntary whimper left my mouth. His head snapped towards me and his eyes went back to normal. His eyes softened and he rushed next to my bedside.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. I was just getting angry because I wasn't able to prevent this. I'm supposed to protect you and be there for you but here you are, in pain, lying on a hospital bed for who knows why!" I timidly reached for his hand. I was scared he would pull away again.
He noticed my reluctance and he grimaced. He took my hand into his gently and sat next to me on the bed. I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder.
"It's okay. Nothing is wrong. I just came into my powers, no biggie. I'll be all better soon and then I can start training for the war." Ryker shook his head at me and smiled.
"What?"
"Even though you are hurt and in pain, I'm sure, you still worry about training." We both laughed at that. It wasn't that funny but after everything I think we just wanted, no needed, to laugh about something, anything.
"Anyways, the doc tested my strength, speed, and knowledge. Apparently, I'm stronger than before, faster than a Vampire, and I don't know about the knowledge part...I think I did well though so no worries."
"Your doctor had you test the day you woke up?! What the heck is wrong with him?! You need rest or else you won't be able to heal as fast as you should."
"It's okay, Ryker. I'm pretty much healed. The doc said that I should be good to go really soon."
"Oh, I know. I already signed you out but still. I'm going to punch him the next time I see him." I shook my head at him and sighed.
"If you signed me out already then let's go. I want to see my grandparents and catch up with them." I hopped out of bed, changed clothes, and gathered my stuff. I stood by the door waiting for Ryker but when I turned to look at him, he was staring at me like I was the Eighth Wonder of the World.
"What? Why are you just sitting there. Let's go." He blubbered and stuttered before clearing his throat and speaking properly.
"You just got ready in under 3 seconds." I looked at him and then looked at myself. I then looked back at him.
"I wasn't trying to. I just wanted to get out of here. Maybe I'm super fast!"
"Noooo. Really? You sure? I mean, getting ready in under 3 seconds isn't fast at all. In fact, that is slower than slow." He gave me the slanted eye look, the one that looks like the emoji that looks like it is saying 'are you kidding me?' ( -_- ) Yeah, that one.
"No need for the badgering, Sargent Sarcasm."
"Yes, Mam. I just thought that Captain Obvious needed a bit of help. She seems to be slow, Mam!" He stood up straight and saluted me. I shook my head and hit him upside his head.
"Let's go, Joker." I walked out the door and down the hallway not waiting for my idiot of a mate. He ran down the hallway to catch up and then he kept pace with me.
"Awe, is someone upset because they were acting stupid and slow?" I didn't like the tone that he took. It sounded as if he was talking to a 2 year-old.
"One, I'm not two years old so don't talk to me like that. Two, you get to sleep on the couch for the whole visit. And three, if you talk to me like that again, call me stupid, or say I'm slow, I will make you sleep outside for a whole month."
