The bus dropped Blake and Betty off at the bus stop outside the Sisters of Quiet Mercy centre. The old stone building loomed over them and they both got the feeling of cold chills running down their spines. The red and grey brick did nothing for the building and the stairs that ascended to the entrance looked like an assent into hell. The large bay windows wouldn't receive much light in the gloom that seemed to have suddenly descended. The creepiest thing was the stone statues of Mary, Jesus and the angels that surrounded the building at sat at the top of the entrance stairs.
"Hey. Don't judge a home for troubled youths by its façade, right?" Blake muttered as the pair took the first steps towards the gothic horror set that was the building. The interior wasn't much better. The walls were painted grey and the only décor was the
"Hi. My name is Elizabeth Cooper. I'm here to see my sister, Polly." Betty told the white haired old woman at the front desk. The women seemed to have a permanent scowl that set Blake on edge. Her cardigan matched the drab colours of the wall and a heavy crucifix on a silver chain hung around her neck.
"May I see some identification?" The woman asked with a gruff tone. Betty passed across her driving license and the woman seemed satisfied. "Sign in here, please." She handed Betty a pen and pointed to the book in front of her. It seemed eerily empty of names. "She'll have to wait." The woman eyes shot to Blake.
Blake gave Betty's arm an encouraging squeeze as she left with the woman. Blake took a seat in the waiting area and resisted the urge to throw the Jesus statue out of the window. There was nothing in the waiting room other than a copy of the bible. Blake sighed and picked at the dark blue nail varnish that was starting to chip.
"Blake Andrews." Blake's head shot up at the sound of Alice Cooper's voice.
"Um... Mrs Cooper.... I..." Blake stammered.
"Save it. You and Betty can explain this to me on the way home." Alice scolded. "But right now, you better come with me." Alice didn't ask. Blake shot to her feet and followed the blonde matriarch down the hall.
"Mom? What are you doing here?" Betty questioned as Alice walked into the room she was in.
"I pay the Sisters good money. You think they don't notify me if Polly gets a visitor?" Alice said coldly. She grabber Betty's arm and pulled her out of the room and down the hall. Blake trailed behind thinking about just how much she wished they had brought Jughead.
"Mom?" Polly asked in bewilderment as she turned to look their way.
"Polly." Alice uttered as she froze on the spot.
"Jason's dead? And you didn't tell me? And you kept me in here?" Polly was getting more worked up a she stepped closer to Alice. Two men dressed in white from head to toe ran down the hall and grabbed her.
"Baby, it's for your own good." Alice tried.
"Ugh! You always say that. And it's not true!" Polly screamed. The men tried to pull her away but she reached out for Betty. "No! Betty!" Polly yelled as Betty fought her way forward and pulled Polly into a hug. One of the guys grabbed Blake as she tried to step forward but she snapped her arm out of his grasp.
"I'm gonna get you out of here, I swear to God." Betty assured Polly. "I love you, Polly." Betty said as the men pulled her down the hall and Betty was pulled back by Alice. It was only as she was getting dragged down the hall kicking and screaming, that Blake noticed Polly's baby bump. He mind went into over drive as she connected the dots.
Jason was going to be a father.
