I swung my hand around, outside of the fog, I grabbed onto it's face and it let out a cry of pain. The skin was forming on it's hands and feet, but I was drained. I let go and fell over backwards. Andrew let out a burst of wind, but it held up it's scythe and cut through. Andrew pulled at the air above him, and leapt at least ten feet up. The scythe swished at him, barely missing as he tumbled through the air, throwing a dagger of air backwards into it's head. It seemed as if it didn't even feel it and it flew after him. He could fly fast, but the thing was gaining on him. A wall of cement came up between them, and it crashed straight through the giant pillar, tumbling through the air before it splayed out it's cloak, catching itself midair. Marry launched a large sphere of water into it, but it cut it in half before the water made contact. It flew towards Mary and Eddy, but Eliza jumped out and made herself into a bolt of lightning, striking it out of the sky. Her top half materialized, and it was already flying back to grab her. It held the scythe blade next to her face, while it's half flesh, half bone hand held her throat. Eliza's eyes were rolling back in her head, and her face was turning blue, when Fred flew in, tackling it and burning it with purple wings. It shoved off, and hit the floor, rolling to a stop and holding it's scythe up. It cut through one of Fred's wings and he fell to the ground. He hit the wall with the back of his head and stopped moving. It tried to move towards him, but Mary whipped it's back with a tendril of water. It stopped and looked back. It threw the scythe at her with alarming speed, and she tumbled out of the way, but it still caught her in the waist, cutting straight through. Mary was in two pieces as I regained my strength. I lifted my hand and launched life essence at her. It wouldn't reconnect her, but it at least kept her alive. I readied my hand of life and rushed over to her, grabbing her legs along the way. I was nearly there when it launched into me, pinning me into a wall.
"You could at least take it easy on us!"
It pulled it's hood back and I jammed my thumbs into it's eyes. It screamed I'm pain as my hands turned green. It's eyelashes started forming, and it's eyelids. I took my thumbs out and it's emerald green eyes started forming. It grabbed both my hands and threw me to the ground. Mary had moved over to her legs, and was waiting with her hand outstretched towards me. I went to grab her, but it grabbed my back and threw me into the wall again. I saw Mary's life essence fading, and I tried to get up but it grabbed at my neck. It threw me down into the ground, and I felt my essence turn a deep, flaming red, and multiply exponentially. It felt the heat from my essence and started backing away. I grabbed it's head and threw it back with enough force to push it through the wall. I rushed over to Mary and turned my hand Green. I touched her waist and her hand and she took a deep breath. The bones, cartilage, tendons, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and finally the skin repaired itself. She passed out in my arms and I lifted her up, I went over too Fred and helped him up as well.
"Oh, god, my head..."
"You'll be fine, just see if you can get Eliza out of here."
"Is it dead?"
"No, it's gone. It won't bother us for a while."
"Alright. I'll get her," he went to pick up Mary but Chris backed away.
"Go get Eliza, I'll get her out of here, you need to focus on her."
"Right... yeah." Fred walked and picked up Eliza who woke up and smiled before passing out again. I healed Andrew, but I let him sleep. I called Sally. She came through the backdoor where she was holed up, and picked up Andrew before handing him off to Rachel. Gwen helped up all of the activists that were still there get back into their cars. We kept one of their armored cars, and put Mary, Eliza, and Andrew in the back. Fred lit the place on fire 'because he felt like it' and Jess jumped up on my shoulder in the front seat.
"Is everyone okay?"
"Yes, Jess. We're all reasonably in the boundaries of okay."
"Okay, good."
"I'm sure they're shaken though, Jess, you should go draw random stuff on their faces to cheer them up."
"Well last time they got mad."
"Well, that was then, this is now."
"Alright dad, if you say so."
"We have a long drive ahead of us." I started the car and looked around. I turned to Rachel. "Where's Eddy?"
"Oh shit."
We both looked around frantically to find Eddy, but we stopped when we heard something rumbling under the car.
Suddenly something hit the base and we heard a loud clang.
"Ow, Fuck!"
"Eddy, would you please get in?"
"Yeah yeah, I'm on it." There was more rumbling underground and he launched into the side door, landing on his feet. "Ta-da!"
I slammed the accelerator and he fell over backwards and hit his head.
"Ow! DAMNIT CHRIS!"
Rachel and I laughed at him from the front seat as we started to move.Everyone else had fallen asleep except me and Rachel. We weren't talking, I don't think either of us felt the need or desire to do so. I focused on avoiding other cars, and she was on her phone. She seemingly hit the send button and let her phone rest on her chest.
"Who are you texting?"
"Hmm? Oh, no one."
Just then Gwen's phone started buzzing.
"No one, huh?"
"Most definitely."
"Well let me see!"
"No! It's private stuff!"
"Oh come on, who's it gonna hurt?"
"Me! And the whole of my dignity!"
"Come on!"
I tried to grab the phone out of her hand but she held it at a distance to keep it away from me. I reached across for it but she held it away. I reached further, before changing my target to Gwen's phone that was hanging out of her back pocket. I swiped it with no trouble, and held Rachel's protests away.
"No! Chris! Don't! That's for her!"
"Of course, for her eyes only! But where's the fun in following the rules anyway."
"No, Chris please!"
I opened up the message. It was a love letter. I scrolled up and saw several more.
"Well god damn. You wrote these?"
"While we weren't training, it was just a pass time. It started as kind of a joke, like how could anyone be this sappy, but then it kind of grew. I like doing it, it makes her happy."
"Ooooh, I see what's going on here."
"What? No you don't..."
"You totally freaking love each other!!!"
"What! No, I mean, she has nice hair, a nice body, but like, no, just no, alright?"
"Alright, whatever you say."
"Hey wait, what's that?"
"Oh shit. It's a blockade. Police must be looking for the cause of all that crap back there."
"What do we tell them?"
"I'll figure something out."
