Even though I was in a situation thousands would die to be in, I wasn't thinking about it. I wasn't thinking about how great it felt to be soaring above the clouds, far beyond where any human could see. I wasn't thinking about how soothing the wind was as it whistled through my feathers.
I was thinking about her.
The way her pure white wings floated gracefully, making her look like an angel sent from Heaven. The way her long, scarlet hair whipped behind her as she topped 100 miles per hour, and how it glistened ever-so-slightly in the sunlight. The way her eyes sparkled like morning dew on a leaf. The way she used to look at me, before things got... complicated.
We'd had a fling between us, nothing serious, but it was still there. But once we found Tyler in that gas station and Nanna abandoned on that doorstep, we had too many responsibilities to keep it going. It was never officially said that we were together, but it wasn't officially said that it was ended, either. My gaze trailed from her wings to her hand, and I was enveloped in longing. I wished so bad that I could fly down next to her and hold her hand, to look into her amazing eyes and know that she felt the same way.
But I had no way of knowing. I wished so bad that I could read her mind, to know if she still felt the way she did not too long ago. They were exact opposites, her white wings and green eyes against my deep blue wings and blue eyes. Even our hair, scarlet against black. But, in my opinion, we were made for each other. I don't know if the bastards who created me designed me to feel this way towards her, or if it just came naturally. But all I could think of was her. Just her, only her.
