Trigger warning: this chapter mentions in detail a car accident. If this triggers you, please refrain from reading it. The area that talks about the crash will be put in stars "**" so that you know when to skip if necessary.

_______________________________

It had been at least 30 minutes in the cab, and Eren was exhausted. It was like a giant glowing sign on his face, letting everyone know how much he just wanted to sleep. It was a constant thought in his head that maybe he'd never be in Sina again. At the very least, it'd be a while since they got back.

What upset him more was how shocked he was. It was understandable though, who wouldn't be shocked to know his parents were mercenaries and his friend had been living with parents who he had no idea weren't his.

Shock was like the moment before a car crash.

*Peace and calm before the storm. You're sitting in the car, listening to your favorite song or talking to whoever's there with you. Then you hear a distant screech, like tires on gravel perhaps. All of a sudden, you feel the hair leave your lungs and your jaw clamps down in automatic shock. You question whether there's pain, because in that moment the only thing you feel is the overwhelming thought of "what just happened"?

Afterwards, you register that something hit the vehicle. You touch your heart, just to make sure it's still beating. Finally, you check to make sure the people around you alright, because who knows how they came out of the situation. All that's left now is the weight of the person who hit you and the stress that comes with recovery.

That is, if you make it out alive.*

Eren had zoned out for at least 15 minutes, trying to think about everything but their situation. Levi seemed to be more annoyed than afraid, which was no surprise.

After what seemed like an eternity in the small taxi passing city after city, the car slowed to a stop and pulled into a small and run-down looking hotel. Saying their awkward and final goodbyes to the taxi driver, they pulled their luggage out of the trunk and made their way toward the door that would lead them to the front desk.

When they walked in, Eren and Levi were both immediately hit with the strong scent of lavender air freshener and the smell of old newspaper. It was headache inducing yet pleasing at the same time, making it equality as confusing.

The receptionist took one look at them from her desk and immediately got up, handed them two keys and told them their room number. #269.

"It's down the long hallway, all the way in the back. When you reach the dead end, it's on your left side. Call the front desk and ask for Nanaba if you need anything." She spoke casually, but her words were knowingly implying that she was in the loop.

Levi turned to Eren, giving a cautious look. She may not be trust worthy. "Thank you." Eren said, assuming the woman in front of him was Nanaba. She just nodded and returned to her desk.

With that, Eren and Levi set off down said hallway, and just as the woman said they reached a dead end and looked left to see room number 269.

Taking out one of the two keys they were given, Levi unlocked the door and walked in.

The room wasn't large, but it wasn't small either.

It had a small desk, a couch, a bathroom and a painting above the bed.

Bed..

One bed.
Fucking fantastic.

"I'll uh- I'll take the couch." Eren said, awkwardly setting his suitcase beside the bed. Levi sighed, doing the same.

"I think we should talk, Eren. We are in this situation together." Levi said, taking a seat on the couch, his elbows propped up on his knees.

"What is there to talk about?" Eren said as he unpacked a blanket from his suitcase, surprised that Levi was making an effort to work together.

"I don't exactly know if either of us realize how much danger this could be. If anything happens, Eren, we can't split up."

"I understand, Levi. We're in this together."

"Good. I guess we should rest now." Levi said, getting up and moving to sit on the bed.

Eren walked over to the couch, taking the blanket he'd previously unpacked and throwing it over himself.

Levi sighed. "Get over here, brat."

Eren looked over, Levi nodded his head toward the space next to him in the king sized bed. "Thanks." Eren said as he took his place next to Levi, both of them laying on their backs on top of the hotels comforter.

~

Maybe being in a bit of danger wasn't always the worst scenario. Sometimes danger brings us together. Whether it be a roller coaster or a life and death situation.

In this story we have read a tale of two teenage boys, but it has turned into something different. It has turned into a story of questioning survival and lost feelings.

Eren and Levi are both young, and they are both ignorant to the job of a mercenary. Despite what they've gone through, and the trauma they carry on their shoulders, nothing will ever prepare them for the sacrifices and decisions such a job takes.

That is why we not only follow the lives of Eren Jaeger and Levi Ackerman, but the mind and the heart.

There is no turning back for these boys, and once they've been stained with the blood from this business, there is no removing the blotch. You can scrub until your fingers bleed, but they will never forget.

We haven't even begun to experience these things with Eren and Levi, but soon enough it will come, and we can only hope that they're ready.
