*Phil's POV*

A knock came upon the door once again, “Dan, Phil?” a voice spoke, “Can we talk?” Dan groaned and I nudged his arm, letting him know that I was going to keep my promise. “Sure, come in,” I announced as Charlie slowly began to open the door and let himself into the room.

He noticed how flustered Dan and I both looked as his cheeks turned lightly red. “Oh, sorry,” he looked down at the ground, “Am I interrupting something?” Dan scoffed as to let him know he was but he didn’t actually say anything. “It’s fine,” I reassured Charlie, “What is it?”

Charlie didn’t speak for a minute and avoided our eye contact causing Dan and I to look at each other with worried faces. “Charlie, what’s up?” Dan spoke up, breaking the awkward silence between the four of us.

Charlie still didn’t look at us but he relaxed a little, still looking extremely nervous. “Yeah so Sam,” he began to mumble quietly, “Ends up that the ‘job’ he was making so much money from was drug dealing and he kind of got arrested during the middle of the night.” Charlie spat out the words and my body flooded with several emotions, all of which I couldn’t understand.

“Charlie!” Dan suddenly yelled out, “You were going to live with a fucking drug dealer‽ Are you fucking mad‽” I looked over at Dan with a puzzled face with his sudden burst of worry over Charlie. Yeah, they became pretty good friends over the last four days but Dan only worried about people who he felt really deeply about.

I quickly shrugged off my thoughts, not wanting to make anything out of something that wasn’t there. “Why would you even trust someone like Sam?” I chimed in, “I thought you guys had a huge fight before and haven’t spoken to each other since.” Charlie sighed and looked at us, eying Dan every two seconds but I ignored it.

“We talked and he explained everything and we apologized to each other,” he explained, “And then he asked if I wanted to live with him in California.” I shook my head at Charlie’s stupidity but refrained from yelling at him for how much of an actual idiot he was.

“So, you’re you going back home then?” I asked, sounding a little hopeful but not meaning to. I actually got to like Charlie again over the past few days. He really did change and he was almost nothing like him old self, but I couldn’t help but feel like he was hiding something.

“Yeah, about that,” Charlie lowered his voice, “Since I turned eighteen last week, my mom kind of kicked me out of the house since she was so sick of me already.” My eyes widened but I only felt bad for him and looked over at Dan who seemed to be feeling the same way.

I nodded at Dan and he seemed to understand what I was getting at so he spoke up. “Okay, you can stay here,” Dan muttered, “But, only under a few conditions.” Charlie looked at Dan with shock but excitement on his face, making me feel rather uncomfortable. Charlie quickly nodded eagerly and listened to our rules.

“You have to pay a third of the rent if you’re going to stay here,” Dan spoke calmly and I nodded in agreement. “We’ll give you a few months here,” I looked at Dan for reassurance and he nodded, “So you can make enough to afford your own place, but then you’ve got to go, okay?” Charlie nodded before a huge smile crossed across his face.
