I begin to whisper into the tiny microphone in my ear.
"Anne, what way?"
"On the next intersection, take a right." I quicken in my pace to keep up with all the turns she's telling me. I end up running down the halls, pausing when I heard footsteps or to wait for the other two to catch up.
By the time we reach the last intersection, Josh spots Greg's office and right beside it the place where we'll be sending the signal to the others.
"Okay Anne, just listen now." I command lowly as the two walk ahead of me.
"Got it." She replies. I follow after Vic and Josh.
"Hero, do you think this plan will work?" Josh asks, slowing in his pace to catch up to me. I look over at him.
"Josh, listen very closely." He leans down to my height as I begin to lower my voice more. "There's a mole in the agency. I don't know who yet but I have some ideas." He looks down at me shocked.
"Hero-" I intervene.
"Josh, I know for certain that this is a trap. I want you to signal the others, no matter how tired or how hard it is, you need to." He looks me in the eyes.
"Why me? Why can't you?"
"Because you're more sneaky and have a better way of getting things done faster." He looks to the door we have slowly been approaching during this mini arguement.
I see Victor already fighting off one guard in the now dim light, thanks to a few lanterns put up down this hallway.
"We should probably make sure to send the signal soon, Josh. I'll go back him up while also covering you so you can get the others." He nods and we both start running down the hallway just in time for Victor to knock out the guard he'd been fighting with.
"What the hell took you guys so long?" He asks, breathlessly. I shake my head.
"Nevermind that." I state. "Let's just get inside here and get out fast." Victor nods and grabs the door handle, dragging it towards him with a mighty tug. I surreptitiously slide into the room with Josh on my tail. I hear the door slam shut and whirl around to see Greg standing there, gun in hand, as a sly smirk takes over his face.
"Hero, Josh, and Victor. Long time no see." Guards appear at every side of us, guns loaded and aimed. I take the time to look for the weak point in their stance; none.
"Greg." Josh's voice rings out, voice laced with hatred and disgust. Greg's face turns to meet Josh's heated glare.
"Now, that is not a very nice way of greeting your beloved father." Josh's eyes narrow to slits.
"Beloved father? Is that what you classify yourself as? Cause you are the furthest away from a father figure. Especially one to classify as a beloved one." Josh sneers. Greg's smirk falters to a face reading strict business.
"Son-"
"Don't call me that!" Josh bursts. "I am not your son. I never have and never will be." Josh jabs his index finger into Greg's chest, fuming. Greg, nostrils flaring, stands to his full height and takes Josh's hand tightly in his.
"Don't talk to me like that boy! I am your new leader! I deserve respect." Greg stated, getting in Josh's face. Josh tries ripping his wrist from Greg's tight grip but no such luck.
"Let me go you psychopath!" Josh yells, still struggling with releasing his wrist. At this point, you can basically see the steam coming out Greg's ears. Greg raises his hand to hit Josh but before he can make contact, Josh flinches away from him and sizes down with his gaze locked on the floor. Greg stares at the young adult in front of him for a minute before releasing his wrist and waving forward two of his men.
"Take each of them to a different room. I want Josh in the coldest one." Greg whispers into their ears. Of course I heard but Josh did not. The two men nod and begin to gather up Victor. Two more start to come for me, and then another pair going after Josh. I turn to Victor to see him already pulling out a gun and tossing it my way while punching one of the guards. I grab the gun and in one shot, shoot both the men heading for Josh. I pivet faster than ever and repeat the movement with the two coming towards me. I back slowly towards Josh and smack him upside the head.
"Josh get up! You need to send the signal!" I whisper. Josh suddenly came out of his daze and sprang up at record time. He shot towards the door as I shot anyone who got too close. Once the doors were closed, I looked around for Greg but he wasn't in sight. I turned toward Victor to see him defending himself against six buff men. I quickly line up my aim and fire repeatedly. All six fall to the ground with a hole in the centre of their foreheads, blood consuming their faces and surrounding ground.
I take a minute to take in what I just did. I shake my head and take Victor's hand , turning to sprint towards the door. Once we turn around I can see the fireworks in the sky, signalling the others to come inside.
"Hero, wait." Victor yanks gently on my hand, stopping me from going any further. I turn my gaze from the booming colours in the sky to the guards in front of the door.
"Crap." I say, backing into Victor while pulling out a second gun.
Victor whispers in my ear, "Go. I'll distract them." I turn to him with tears in my eyes. I begin shaking my head.
"No, Victor. You can't take all of those men. Especially by yourself." I whisper back. He shakes his head.
"It's better than the gang having no leader." He replies. My eyebrows furrow slightly as I nod. I turn slowly and glance at the guards from under my eyelashes, fists tight around my guns. I raise my head slowly and cock it to the left slightly. Without any hesitation, I start firing rapidly, not one blink between each shot. All but one falls to the ground. He looks up at me with wide eyes. I holster my weapons and head towards the door.
When I approach the man, I can see him try to aim his knife but, in no time Victor tackles to him to the ground and I continue my pace to the door. I reach my target and hear struggling. I turn to see another guard trying to rip Victor off the other on the ground who is nearly unconscious. I lock gazes with Victor for a second.
"Hero, go!" He yells. I open the door and hurry to the closet next to the canon that Josh used to fire off the fireworks.
"Josh?" I see his head pop out of the dark corner and into the light.
"There you are, I thought you guys forgot about me." He says jokingly. I chuckle a little to myself and offer my hand. As he accepts the gesture and straightens, he looks over my shoulder.
"Where's Vic?" I open my mouth to reply when a loud gunfire rings out from the other room. I cover my agape mouth with my hands as a silent sob escapes my mouth.
"Hero, maybe it's not what you think." Josh reasons. I shake my head, tears falling like a waterfall.
"You don't understand, Josh." I look him in the eyes. "No one in that room had a gun when I left."
"So, what does that mean?" I wipe my face and turn towards the door but walking in the opposite direction.
"It means, that there was another person in there with them." I stalk away from the closed doors of my past.
