Chapter 19
After a few hours, Cam gave up asking questions since all that happened was me shrugging in answer. I don't know what time it is now but, l need to get out of here.
I try to wiggle out of the ropes or at least loosen them. It doesn't work of course. I think back to when I shrank back into the chair; the ropes almost gave out. I move down in the chair, my back against the seat. I clenched my hands into fists, popping out my veins. With my feet already on the floor, I attempted to stand, before jumping backwards onto the chair; breaking it on impact. With the wood broken, my binds came off easily.
I stand up shining the light around the room. I turn toward the door Cam just left from. I run up to it and try the knob. Have you not watched any movies?! My conscious bites at me. My eyes narrow. I ignore my mind and try to turn it anyways. I told you! I growl out in frustration. I turn and take the lamp in my hand again. I feel a slight drift come down from above. I turn the lamp shade upwards. Sitting above the place Cam was interrogating me from, was a vent.
"Score." I mumble to myself. I grab the intact chair, placing it underneath the vent. I quickly balance myself on the chair, ripping the vent away from the ceiling. I hear voices coming closer to my room. I focus on the vent gate as it finally separates. I throw it at the door as it opens. While people are tending to the now injured guard, Cam stomps through the door.
"Freeze, Hero." I hear a faint click of a safety getting turned off. I'm halfway in the vent right now. I turn my head back to Cam, looking at him over my shoulder.
"C'mon Cam, can you just stop aiming a gun at me? Maybe then I would actually listen to your comments." I snarkily reply. I can see his cheeks tick as he grinds his teeth. He puts the gun back in its holster. "You also might wanna check on your guard." I voice, sparing a glance back to where there is now blood flooding out on the floor from his head injury. Cam looks at the guy on the ground, eyes widening at the severity of the hit. As he crouches next to the man, I climb the rest the way through, silently making my way through the small area. I take sharp turns in different directions. I stop for a few seconds to gather my breath.
I'm about to leave when I hear sounds from below. I crawl a little farther to find a gate leading into what seems to be the supply room. I hear shifting around and urgent voices yelling out commands.
"I can't beleive boss lost the girl." A raspy voice states. I look down through the gate at what was happening. I see two bulky men, both with shaved heads.
"Apparently, she hit Gusto and he died a few minutes later from the gash in his head. He was more focused on the fact that he just lost one of his best guards, than he was on a little girl." A deep voice replies. The other nods his agreement.
"And now he wants everyone else to clean up his mistake." The raspy voice says while they walk out of the room together.
I sit there for a few moments before kicking in the gate and dropping down to the storage room floor. I landed with a soft thud. I look around the room while straightening. For such a small room they can fit in a lot. In the far left corner is a long rack of outfits for different jobs here, below the clothes I find some of my weapons that they must've removed from me when they tied me up, above the rack is a shelf of hats lined perfectly, behind me is row of lockers; some open some not, to the right is a large safe, and old canned food littering the ground. I make my way toward the outfits and hats. I quickly scan through finding a large blue jumpsuit, grabbing a hat as well.
After putting the jumpsuit on over my clothes, I take in the smell of the room; it has a malodorous stench of death, and dimmed lighting. I walked to my stuff yng on the ground; grabbing a bunch of knives and guns, hiding them in the jumpsuit. I also grab a ponytail from my jacket pocket, tying my hair and slipping on the cap. I head to the door and turn the knob slowly. Once I open the door I take a look up and down the empty halls. I shut the door behind me as I head on my way to the basement; Cam always kept his 'targets' or 'bait' in the basement where they can scream but can't be heard.
I hear a bunch of racket coming from in front of me. I freeze mid step and hide behind one of the pillars in the hall. I take a knife out of my suit and get ready to strike.
