Chapter 21
We all press up against the wall outside the basement door. Guards are everywhere; pacing the hall, standing in front of the door, placed at the end of the hall, and everyone has a loaded gun or some sort of weapon.
I tilt my head past the corner, seeing the weak places in their stances and stations. I turn back to the team.
"Anne, do you think you could possibly hack their com systems?" She nodded, already opening her holographic system in her watch.
"Done." She states, after a few seconds. "The interference will start in 3...2...1... now." We all look up to see the enemy grabbing their ears, throwing their earpieces to the ground. I turn to Victor, passing him a few of my knifes.
"Just be careful, Victor." I mumble, as he takes them from my grasp. He looks down at me for a few moments before nodding, moving toward his first target. I hand Tyler and Anne a gun, waiting for Victor to give the sign.
He stabs the first in the right side of the neck; killing him instantly. He glides around getting another three people before waving us through. Once Tyler rounds the corner, he starts firing. He get every 2 of 4 shots in for every person he gets down. Anne uses her gun as a threat to the two guarding the door. I head to the group starting to crowd the boys; every shot i get someone straight through their foreheads. The three of us line up back to back, rotating in slow circles.
"Hero, this is your call; what do we do?" Tyler questions through his teeth, turning his head every which way searching for threats. I think for a moment.
"Fire at will." I state, my voice barely a whisper. The boys glance at each other before nodding. I start shooting, getting all my targets, clearing a way to Anne. I help the boys with a few more before heading over and assisting Anne. I point my gun at one of the guards forehead.
"Open. The. Door." I emphasize every word, authority dripping from my tone. The guards look between themselves before turning to open the door. Once the door unlocks, they both get a bullet through their heads. I turn back to see the boys just finish with their battle, looking to the left of me. I turn my attention to where they are looking to see four figures appear from the darkness.
"Deadshot indeed." I hear Cam's voice echo off the walls.
"Just give it up Cam, we won, you lost." I state. I see his smirk grow on his face as light illuminates it.
"Have you? Because as far as I know, I still have my best three soldiers standing next to me." He gestures them to come forward. "I'm sure you will recognise them, Hero." I look at the three surrounding him. My mouth drops at the sight, I'm sure Tyler's does too; just for a whole different reason.
"Tanya?" He exclaims. She gives him a sinister smile, stalking toward him.
"Tyler. How nice to see you again. Really, I am pleased just, I was hoping it wouldn't be in this way." I can see his jaw tick as he glares down at her.
"Please, don't flatter yourself. I'm here for my brother, and no one is going to stop me. Not even you." His voice is laced with venom. I just sit there staring at Cam's tech geek, the girl I used to call my best friend; Kim Avon. She shrinks back at my glare.
"Kim, how could you do this?" I interrogate. She looks up at my pleading eyes. She opens her mouth to speak, at first no words come out. She stops to take a breath before trying again.
"Hero, I'm sorry, okay. I am, but, this maniac came to my door and threatened my family." Her eyes well with tears. Cam rolls his eyes at the word she describes him with.
"Well, since we are all gathered here," Cam interferes. "I may as well let you know that Kim didn't work alone on those messages." Victor looks at me.
"What messages?" He intimidates. I meet his eyes with my own.
"I'll tell you after we kick these guys butts." I claim. He doesn't seem happy with the answer but lets the matter drop. Cam nods. He looks to his right hand man; Adam, before turning back to us.
"Alright, gang fight it is." He pulls out his daggers. His little friends follow his lead; all except for Kim, who doesn't have any. I look towards my team. They all pull out some sort of weapon; Victor has his knives, Tyler has a gun, Kin uses some fancy software she has that shoots lasers. Lastly, I pull out my revolver.
"Anne you take Kim. Vic you take Adam. Tyler; Tanya. I have Cam." I state. No one objects to my orders, although none seems pleased about me taking on Cam. With a battle cry, everyone goes for their assigned targets.
I charge into Cam before he can blink. We both go toppling down the basement stairs, the door crushing from the impact of our weight. We reach the landing, me on top of him.
"Give it up, Cam!" I yell, pinning down his arms. He struggles to move, shifting and wiggling randomly. He uses his hip to switch the position; him on top of me. I shake my hands around before he can grasp them.
"Please, Hero, I will be the best leader of the best gang! Once I get rid of you that is." He states, determined. I shake my head. When did he become such a madman?  Once we reach the landing I land on top of Cam, pinning his hands above his head.
"Give it up Cam; we won, you lost." He struggles against my hold. He tries to escape my grasp; shaking around violently. He uses his hip to flip us over; him on top of me. He uses his advantage to pin my hands down at either side of my face.
I kick his manly hood. He topples to the ground, groaning in pain. I quickly jump up, and using the hilt of my gun, knock him out. By the time I straighten, I'm panting and gasping for air. I holster my weapon, looking around the room. The basement is just a long hallway lined with multiple rooms on each side. I glance back down at Cam, debating whether or not to leave him untied. I shrugged. Even if he did wake up, he would act like a drunk.
I walk back upstairs to see Tyler knocked out on the floor, Anne and Kim in the corner; she must've came to our side, and Victor getting cornered. I feel my blood boil. I grab a knife and gun from the floor and in the blink of an eye throw the knife, hitting Tanya in the back. She drops down, trying to reach for the knife 6 inches in her back. The more she tries, the more blood floods out from the wound. The air started to leave her lungs as she took the last breath she will ever take.
I turn back to Adam, slowly raising the gun to aline with his forehead. His eyes nearly shoot of his head, throwing up his hands in mock surrender.
"How could you?" I take a step towards him. "You were best friends." I shake my head, disappointed. He smiles. Smiles. I grind my teeth.
"Friends? I was never his friend. It was all part of the act." He shrugs like it was no big deal.
"Act? What act? The act where you have to always be a jerk?" I retort. His face forms a deep scowl.
"No. My brother was fine until you had to break his heart. He went insane, the family was forced to put him into an institution." He started. "While there, he kept asking to see me. According to him, I was the only one that would listen to him. One day the institution called me to come and calm him down; he tried to jump out the window in his room that morning. I took a taxi down and when I walked into his room, he was just sitting there, rocking back and forth on the floor. I placed a hand on his shoulder and he flinched. Flinched. It made me so mad that this is what became of him.
"He looked up at me after I removed my hand and jumped to his feet, hugging me right away. He started to cry saying that he wasn't well, that he should leave, that he was a burden. Even though he was right back then, he has been getting better. Mentally, is just taking longer." He looked at the gun and back to me. "Shoot me if you want, but just know, you'll never catch him." I send him my best scowl. I pull the safety off, a look of void flashing across his face, makes me pull the trigger. The sound echoing off the walls hypnotizes me into a daze. I lower the gun, looking at the lifeless body sliding down the wall, leaving a trail of blood in its wake.
