The newsies are very kind. They lent me some clothes I could wear so I looked like one of them. Once I was changed, I heard Jack "introducing" me to the other newsies. But I still couldn't place where I had seen Race before.
"Fellas, you met our friend Julia. And now it is my pleasa' to introduce you ta Ink!" With that he held out his hands in a presenting motion, and I walked out, "Hiya boys!" I said taking off my hat and bowing. As soon as my hat came off a long braid snaked its way down my back which I then coiled up back into its hiding place. All the newsies cheered. "Now fellas if Ink is gonna sell wit' us she'll need a good spot, any ideas?" Jack asked the boys. There was a murmur amongst them when Race finally spoke up," From Bottle Alley to the Harbor, there's easy pickins guaranteed." "Try any banker, bum, or barber, theys almost all knows how ta read." Finch added. I nodded and we went to the distribution center. "Here this is for ya first fifty" Jack handed me a quarter. "What if I can't repay you?" I asked. " Hey don't worry bout it, we's family it's what we do." Jack responded.

I walked up to the Distribution Window. "Fifty please" I asked placing my quarter down. "Well would ya look at this, a new kid" one of the boys behind the window snickered. "Hey Osca' leave him alone!" I heard Jack shout. "Fifty please" I repeated. "Here now beat it!" The other one said shoving me my papes and a bag. With that I walked away putting my papers in the bag. "Who are they?" I asked the newsies. "They are two people you don't want to get in a fight with. They's the Delancey bruddas" Race said. "Aright boys hit the streets these papes ain't gonna sell themselves!" Jack shouted.

TIME SKIP

I walked through the streets of New York, all of my papers were sold, and I had enough to pay Jack back and for room and board. But that was it, I didn't have enough for food. I decided I would have to do something I never wanted to. I would have to steal. I made my way towards the fruit stand, I thought that I made sure no one was watching me as I slipped three apples into my bag, but I was sorely wrong. I started to walk away but ended up sprinting when I heard a gruff and heavy voice behind me shout," Hey you! Newsie stop!" I dared look back and caught a glimpse of the man that Jack described as Snyder the Spider. I kept running to the only place I knew that I could go to, the Lodging House.

I had almost made it, I had one block left when I felt myself going down. 'Oh no, I'm done for!' I thought as I tripped over a rock landing on the hard ground. I struggled to my feet as I saw the boy from earlier running to help me, gosh I still cannot remember how I know him. "Race help me up!" I shouted. As soon as he ran over, I felt two large hands yank me off the pavement. Snyder got me. I kicked and tried to break free of his hold but my efforts were to no avail, the more I squirmed the tighter Snyder's grip became. I was being taken to the Refuge!
