Dragon POV
"So, you're married to Joanna, hm?" Mom asked.
I smiled. "Yeah. She's wonderful."
"How was your honeymoon?" Mom asked mischievously.
I had asked Ghost for a conversation with my mom. Ghost said it was against his rules but decided to do it anyway because my father was never the same when my mom was killed.
I felt blood rush to my cheeks. "It was fine."
Mom laughed. "I wouldn't say 'fine' if I were blushing."
I sighed, my smile never leaving off of my face. "It was wonderful to have her all for myself for two weeks."
"What did you two do?"
"We walked on the beach at night. We had a movie marathon. We visited a lot of touristy places."
Mom chuckled. "Is that all?" Mom's eyes twinkled with mischief hinting something else.
"Mom!" I whined.
She hugged me. "Oh, my sweet baby's all grown up."
Mom let go of me and I smiled. "I'm glad that I married Joanna."
"How is she?"
"Back to work."
"Any chance I might have a grandchild?"
My cheeks heated up. "Mom."
Mom chuckled. "Most children are conceived during the honeymoon phase."
I covered my face. "Mom, she's a busy woman and she has a demanding job. She can't waste her time with kids."
Mom smiled. "I had that kind of job before I had you. A demanding job. But I took a maternity leave."
"She's the CEO of her company, Mom. She can't just take a maternity leave."
Mom dropped the subject with a bit of silence before speaking up. "How's your father?"
"He was never the same after you..."
Mom cupped my cheek. "Cole, I'm so sorry." Her eyes started to water.
"Mom, it's okay." I held onto her forearms.
"It's because I've done her wrong."
"Her?"
"Phoenix."
My heart clenched. "What did you do that made her go cuckoo crazy?"
"I was one of the people who took everything away from her."
"Why?" I took a step back.
"I..." She shook her head. "I can't bring myself to tell you especially since..." She shook her head once more. "It's not my secret to tell."
"Mom, I might be able to change her mind. I might be able to make her come over to my side. To the side---"
"That was responsible for what happened to her." She smiled weakly. "I don't blame her."
"She killed you."
"Cole, I would still be alive if it weren't for what I did to Phoenix."
"That doesn't mean she has to kill you!"
"If you kill Phoenix----"
"Then I'm no better than she is." I clenched my fist.
"I took everything she loved most."
"And she took you away from me and Dad." Tears formed in my eyes.
"Cole, it's time to go." Ghost's voice rang.
Mom clasped her hands, pleading. "You must understand, Cole. I pleaded for her to kill me. She decided not to kill me when I took off my Illusion Ring."
I opened my eyes. Back to the plane of the living. "Is something wrong?"
Angel and Zoom barged in the meeting room. Zoom looked at me, worry written all over his face. "King and the Seven Sins have waged war against us."
