"We can't be certain. That's why we didn't say anything," Hayes mumbled lowly as he walked over to the picture that Arlo had inspected earlier and looked at it. "But I do believe it is her- the only way to know for sure is to show her a picture of her mother and father and see if she recognises them or if the Deception, Obsession or Sagacity Pack can look into any records that have survived. They're doing that as we speak."
Ryder stood in shock.
"I don't want it to be her in a sick, twisted way though. I'd much rather my baby cousin be dead than having to live through that torture, than being left to die. I'd much rather her be dead than her being in the hands of that man!" Hayes shouted. His amber eyes glowed brighter than before with hints of red gleaming through indicating that his wolf was on the verge of taking over. A cracking sound was heard followed by the sound of shards of glass falling to the floor as Hayes' angry grip on the glass was with so much force.
"Hayes! Enough!" Dexter shouted.
"No! She's my baby cousin, father, and Damien will pay dearly for what he did to her, he turned her insane. She murdered people because of him," Hayes spat darkly.
"He's right. Hayes is right. When I get my hands on him he'll face something worse than death," Ryder smirked and he left the room slamming the door behind him.
*****
Ryder opened the door quietly and peered to see the bed empty.
Shit.
"Fay?" Her quiet sobs told him the she had hid in the closet. "Can you come out my sweet girl? Why are you in the closet? We need to sleep and I can only sleep with you in my arms, safe and where you belong, my girl."
"But you're mad at me. You'll hurt me!"
"No sweet girl, do you not understand? I can't hurt you. You are made for me and me alone - I would never harm you, it would break my soul to harm you. The Moon Goddess created you for me, Fate brought us together and Destiny decided that we are to rule over the Force Pack together, as one, until we both grow old and die. So please Fay, come out now," Ryder could feel anger surfacing in his blood but not at Fay. No. Never at Fay. He was angry that she had been broken to the extent that she could not trust her own mate.
Soft rustling was heard as well as a little bump against some wood when she hit her head followed by a soft oomph that made Ryder internally chuckle slightly.
"You're not going to hurt me?" She whispered as she pushed the cupboard door open just so she could see him but she remained in the shadows.
"No so please, Fay, come here now," Ryder demanded softly whilst opening his arms for her to walk into which she did obediently and although she could not bring herself to show affection in return, Fay shuddered in wonder and delight at the sparks that ignited her entire body as he embraced her with such tenderness and care.
"Please may I sleep now? I don't feel very good."
"In what way don't you feel very good, Fay?" Ryder whispered pulling away slightly to tuck a piece of hair behind her eye and searched her face and body for any harm.
"Sleepy," she mumbled fighting back a yawn.
Ryder smiled softly at her being incredibly adorable without even trying. He studied her a moment longer absorbing all of her beauty before placing a hand under her knees and the other on her back and scooping her up into his arms, placing her on the bed and dragging her under the covers with him.
Tingles crawled down Fay's neck as she felt her mate run his fingers through her hair and she found herself subconsciously leaning in to his touch as she enjoyed the strange, unfamiliar feeling of being loved, cherished and cared for.
"After the meeting tomorrow I'm taking you back to our pack where you belong. A pack needs its Luna and Alpha," Ryder explained firmly.
"Why tomorrow? I can't be a Luna, Alpha, I'm not ready," Fay blurted out before flinching back and covering herself with her hands as though she was about to be hit.
"You are to never refer to me as your Alpha, you are my equal and you shall be treated as such and I demand that you show yourself self-respect," Ryder growled removing Fay's hands from in front of her, "and Hayes will visit at some point. He has some... things... to tell you that you need to know about and some questions to ask that may help us."
"What things?"
"Fay, do you remember what happened the night you were taken?" Ryder sat up completely as Fay nodded her head and then shook it indicating she could only remember some parts. "A rogue attacked your pack, Fay."
"My Mum's throat was ripped from her neck in front of me but I can't remember much else from my childhood," Fay choked back a sob. Ryder sighed and moved over to her to hold her close to his chest.
"Your father died too Fay, he got himself killed by a rogue after he felt the bond with your mother sever as soon as she was slaughtered."
"How do you know all of this?"
"You've been missing for almost a decade, everybody thought that you had been killed by the rogues. Dexter, the ex-Alpha here is Hayes' father, he's your uncle. Hayes is your cousin. Or so we think. We're asking the people of the Sagacity, Obsession and Deception packs to look into all of this as we speak and as soon as we know for certain tomorrow, we'll go back to our pack and we'll get you better."
"Damien?"
"Don't worry your pretty little head about him Fay - he will be dealt with. Sleep, this is all so much for you to take in."
"I like you. You don't hurt me like other people," Fay murmured as she lay down beside her mate. Ryder froze. I like you.
They weren't the three words he longed to here but they were close enough and that was enough for him at the moment.
"And I promise I never will hurt you my sweet, sweet girl."
****
Soft, deep breathing filled the room as Fay slept in a restless sleep but Ryder lay wide awake with her words forcing a smile on his face I like you. You don't hurt me like others. Slowly she was opening up to him and although it was because of the bond, he was grateful for the bond. He was grateful for his mate and he would seek his revenge on Damien.
And Hayes would help. All of the Alphas would.
