"Oh thank God," Jace sighed, his candle dimly illuminating his face. He handed me the candle slowly, not letting go of it until the wax was firmly clasped in my hand. Taking out another candle, he flicked his lighter, and watched as the flame flickered into life. Handing Asher the candle, he lit one for himself, and then turned to us.
"They're all in the lobby," he told mostly me, "just follow me back."
"Okay," I replied hoarsely, as he spun around and started to walk.
"Good news, guys," Owen prompted as we reached our circle. "The snow's letting up. We'll have clean enough roads to drive home soon enough."
"Kara, I'm still crashing at your place," Kate called out with a grin, packing up all of her stuff. She then turned to the rest of us. "It's been a pleasure being stuck in this library with you, but hopefully you can empathize with my stealing of Kara because I WANT GO GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS HELLHOLE."
She then proceeded to drag me out by the arm, as I attempted to place a scarf around my neck and a hat on my head.
"If I don't survive," I told them in a grave tone," murder Kate for me."
"Stop being melodramatic, Kara," Hadley laughed, waving us both goodbye. I stuck my tongue out at her right as Kate shoved me into the cold snowstorm.

"So... Kara... you and Asher?" Kate grinned mischievously, shoving my shoulder slightly.
"No," I deadpanned, shooting her an angry glare.
"Come on," she whined "we all heard you moaning in between the shelves. Jace looked like he had seen a ghost."
"I can't be with Asher for that very reason, Kate. I don't want to hurt Jace anymore," I explained, staring at my hands as my empty heart ached.
"Jace broke up with you so you could be with Asher, you idiot," Kate exclaimed.
"I know," I conceded uneasily, "I'm just scared."
"That's perfectly normal," Kate assured me, placing her hands on each of my shoulders. "But, Kara, you can't let this fear rule your life. If you do, it's going to hurt your chance at happiness."
"And since when did you become a philosopher?" I asked with a smile, feeling her words ease my qualms.
"Since my best friend became scared of the very thing that she loves," Kate grinned, wrapping her arm my shoulder. Her smile made my own widen, and it rested on my lips all the way to Asher's locker.
