"So you're sure you've got this?"

"Yep."

"You don't need me to call Mrs. Hudson or Molly or-"

"Nope. I know you'll probably call Molly in a few minutes anyway."

"Of course you do, good bye."

Sherlock waved at John and Mary as they left, promptly shutting the door behind them and drifting back into the living room. Rosie watched him curiously from her spot on the carpet, her bright blue eyes trailing him as she clutched the stuffed otter at her side.

"Just you and me now," Sherlock said, sitting in front of Rosie and meeting her gaze intently, "Molly will be here in ten minutes I'd say; your father will have an internal struggle as he decides whether or not to trust me alone with you, decide I could use the help, and frantically phone Molly trying to sound as calm as possible."

Rosie just blinked at Sherlock, holding out her otter. Sherlock stared at it, than at the toddler.

"Well what am I going to do with it?" Rosie once more offered her stuffed animal and with a sigh Sherlock took it, "a small honor I suppose. No one has ever lent me their stuffed otter before."

Rosie once again silently stared at Sherlock as he turned the animal over in his hand, studying it cautiously. He looked at the infant Miss Watson, than at the otter, as if expecting her to burst into tears at any moment.

"What are you staring for? Are you one of those creepy babies that watches you in your sleep then scares the crap out of you when you wake up?"

Once more Rosie said nothing, only blinking slowly, and Sherlock shuddered.

"I didn't notice how creepy it was until now," he muttered under his breath, holding out the otter to Rosie. She took it and Sherlock watched as she slowly turned it over in her hand, similar to what the consulting detective had done.

"Ah I see, you're a copycat baby. I suppose I should watch what I say around you. Even though you have hardly uttered a word yet." While the young Rosie was almost a year old now, she had yet to say a single. John and Mary had been worried, naturally, however the doctors had assured them it was completely normal and that she would talk when she was ready.

Of course, this news didn't stop the Watsons from worrying and both had been sticking close to their daughter just in case. In fact this night was their first day out without the baby in what seemed like ages. And Sherlock didn't want to be the one ruin their peace.

Sherlock folded his hands under his chin, watching his goddaughter with narrowed eyes.

"So, wanna play a game?" Rosie was silent and unmoving for a moment before she held out the otter. Sherlock took it and almost immediately gave it back to the infant.

"What's your favorite color?" Once again Rosie gave Sherlock the otter and once again he handed it back.

"Do you actually like being called Rosie?" And so the process repeated. Sherlock would ask a question and in response Rosie would give him the otter, only to receive it back almost immediately after.

Finally, after a few minutes of their game, the doorbell rang. Sherlock didn't take his eyes off of Rosie as he listened to Molly enter the Watsons' home.
