"Ashwinder eggs. Rose thorns. Peppermint. Moonstone. Pearl dust. Stir your mixture well, counterclockwise, until you see steam rise from your cauldron. There are three things that will tell you you've done the potion right. Does anyone know?"

Professor Hudson scanned her classroom, her dark brown eyes flicking across the faces of the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. The students glanced at each other, low whispers rising from the crowd. One student, a dark haired Ravenclaw, rolled his eyes and leaned over to the brunette Hufflepuff sitting beside him.

"I swear all of these people are idiots, pick up a book will you?" The Hufflepuff snickered lightly and her friend leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest.

"The steam rises in spirals," the Ravenclaw called out, voice deep and baritone, "there is a distinctive mother of pearl sheen, and the potion smells differently to each person based off of what attracts them."

Professor Hudson blinked at him, raising an eyebrow, "very good, Mister Holmes. Though I would prefer it if you'd raise your hand next time." He shrugged and glanced at the empty cauldron by the potions professor, his icy eyes lit with interest.

She nodded, "now does anybody know what the mixture is, besides Mister Holmes?" The young Hufflepuff hesitantly raised her hand, her light brown hair a loose braid over her shoulder. Professor Hudson nodded to her. "Yes, Miss Hooper?" The Ravenclaw raised an eyebrow, looking towards her.

"Amortentia, Professor. The love potion."

The professor smiled softly, "very good. Now, can you tell me more about the potion itself?"

The young Hufflepuff nodded, "it's not really a love potion rather than one that makes the user infatuated with whoever administered it. It's impossible to create love, so this potion stimulates it."

Professor Hudson dipped her head to the Hufflepuff, "once again, Miss Molly Hooper, well done." Molly sunk into her seat as eyes wandered to her and Sherlock nudged her softly, a grin on his face. Molly blushed lightly as the professor continued, "this potion is extremely difficult to perfect and extremely dangerous to own. However," the Ravenclaw who had spoken earlier, the young Sherlock Holmes, sat up straighter in his seat, watching the professor with interest, "today we will be attempting to make a batch."

Sherlock Holmes grinned and the students broke out into hushed murmurs of excitement. Professor Hudson tutted loudly, silencing the classroom with a steady look.

"However, because this potion is extremely dangerous to make and to own, only two students shall be attempting to make it." The excited murmurs immediately fell to quiet groans of disappointment. The professor tutted and waved her hand, silencing the students once more.

"Miss Hooper and Mister Holmes, would you two please step up?" Molly Hooper blinked, looking at Sherlock who was now watching her with a face void of emotion. She cleared her throat awkwardly, her chin ducking towards her chest as she stood. Glares from a few of the students followed Sherlock and Molly as they made their way up to the front of the classroom and to the cauldron by the professor.

The professor began explaining the process but when Molly looked at Sherlock she saw he was extremely uninterested, instead peering at her. Molly quickly looked away, shifting her feet and studying the ingredients laying out in front of them.

"So, how have you been," the Ravenclaw suddenly whispered from beside Molly. She blinked, her gaze flicking to him. The two were friends, however hardly talked very much besides when Sherlock needed her to use her connections to get resources for his experiments or when they had classes together.
