A/N: The above picture is Mermily

Mermily sat up and stretched her arms and flexed her long, shiny, shimmery blue tail. It went from royal blue and faded to white, and ended with a ruffle. She sighed, realizing that she still had some sparkly coral dust on her fins from last night's party. The party had lasted practically all the hours of the night, and it had totally rocked the reef. She replayed the events with the handsome, dark haired, roguish merman from the party in her head. How he had gracefully swept her through the water, dancing for hours on end. She stood up, (well, as much as mermaids CAN stand up) and swam over to her big vanity stand. The thin young mermaid pulled a sea comb through her long blonde locks quickly, because she wanted to do some shipwreck exploring today before she was forced to attend the court.

The court and her ladies-in-waiting were all completely shitty to her to be completely honest. She was tired of them constantly bringing her down with comments of "Your hair is most dreadful, not as shiny and silky as a TRUE princesses' hair should be. Just goes to show how SOME people aren't fit to be royalty." Or sometimes it was as simple as one of them swimming past and whispering in her ear something nasty. But the others were nothing compared to Nerissa. The sly gorgeous mermaid with the long, silky black curls pinned back with pink pearls and her gorgeous, long purple tail that seemed to go on for days. She was like a barracuda. In her kingdom, the longest tails were the most gorgeous. It was considered unseemly to have a short, stiff tail. Mergirls were supposed to have long, flexible tails that would swish gracefully when they swam, and mermen were expected to have just as long, but more muscular, tails.

I was yanked out of my own bitter thoughts by a soft knock on the door. "Mermily? Are you up yet? It's time to get you ready for the court and the princes you will be meeting today!" I groaned inwardly at the voice of Melody, my top maid and helper, and at the thought of meeting the mentioned princes. "They're all the same. Each one of them all primped up and arrogant, each one even more proud than the last." I quietly swept into my closet and pulled on a silky blue dress that floated around my figure gracefully, then grabbed my sea silk raggedy old bag I regularly used for exploring and quickly dove out the window. I had made sure to cast an invisibility songspell before I swam out of the window.

I shot like a bullet out of the window and looked behind me all the while, making sure I wasn't discovered. As the heir to the throne of The Ivory Sea, I was very valuable, and an important piece of their generation. I lived in the very center of my kingdom's territory, in the big city where the palace was located. I. heard alarm bells start to ring throughout the city. "Shit! They've realized that I'm gone!" I heard some guards swimming through the city shouting, "The princessa has been discovered missing from her room!! Lock the gates!!" The gates started to close slowly, the guards at the gate straining to close the heavy iron gates. The city was surrounded by a huge wall. It towered over everything. And it went on for miles upwards, leaving the city and its inhabitants very protected. I pushed myself to go even faster than before, and slipped through the gates just as they shut.
